I am not an exception, and my worse pet peeve is going for a doctor's appointment only to end up waiting for more time even beyond my scheduled time. I think many of us have experienced such a thing at one point in life. When I book an appointment to see a doctor, I expect to see them in time or worst-case scenario after 30 minutes of waiting. However, at times this could even take several hours. Or how long should you wait when your time is due? Most of the time, it is the receptionist who books the appointment between the doctor and the patient.

It beats the logic onto why they tell someone to report on time only to spend more time waiting when the actual time is not true. Do doctors have a mechanism of knowing when a particular client is to see them and perhaps call them to delay them if they anticipate other customers will take more their anticipated time? Though this might not have happened to everyone, I can't recall any time when I went to see a doctor on time given to me but end up spending the whole day there. When I call to see a doctor, it is because I am unwell, and the last place I want to spend the entire day is at a hospital waiting room with other sick and irritated people.

The aspect of waiting in waiting bay surrounded by other unwell people tends to make me even sicker, and while I should go home happy, I leave feeling wasted as I have other plans besides being in the hospital. Every time I sit at a waiting room without knowing when my turn to see the doctor because the actual time has elapsed, it makes me impatient yet is a patient. It because I have other things to do as well, but it seems like if I book an appointment, I should cancel all the other schedules in that particular for am not sure if I will be served on time.

A recent example is when I went for my yearly check, which usually takes a maximum of 30 minutes. On this, I called my clinic and confirmed my booking, and was scheduled to see the doctor at 11.00 am. I was at the clinic desk at 10 minutes to time. I was sure that by noon I would be on my way as I had a meeting to attend later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be as I end up spending the entire afternoon there. Not only didn't I waste a whole day but also lost a chance to present a crucial project to the people I was meeting.

My employer had to blame me for the cancellation of the contract, and eventually, I got fired. Though I got another job, it hurts a lot when my entire plans and ambitions were ruined by a simple appointment to see a doctor. I don't think a scheduled hospital visit should be the reason that will make you stop other important plans. Isn't it the case with doctors themselves? Would you like to waste an entire day on someone else's office for an issue you could solve in less than an hour? Somethings may not seem like much to other people, but we all have different issues that make faze no matter how minor they may look, but this is my biggest pet peeve.

And to me, wasting an entire day to see a doctor while I had booked an appointment in the morning makes me sick. Though at times a patient may have a complicated issue that requires more time, cant this be communicated to the others, so that if we can reschedule, it doesn't have to mean canceling other plans. It would be prudent for doctors to let their patients that due to unavoidable circumstances, there will be some delay, so if you have other plans, you can arrange how to sort them. Just a simple approach can make everyone feel better knowing that its neither the doctor's fault or any other person in that matter.

I hope that next time I go to see a doctor, I will be able to serve in time without much waiting.
