CASE STUDY CRITIQUE Introduction This case study reviews what I consider to be structurally good about the thesis methodology chapter and its presentation, what I consider could be structurally improved about the chapter presentation and the core reasons and an analysis of the key lessons (if any) that I have identified from the review exercise for preparing and presenting a Methodology chapter. The Methodology chapter is a key factor concerning this research methodology that is considered structurally good is the participative action research. This is a type of action research that was suitable for this research study since there are various forms of action research due to diversity. It is a methodological procedure that is equipped to cope with difficult situations. For example, it deals appropriately with organizational change projects. In this case study, it assisted and enabled the promotion of continuous learning process inside the project team. It details the development and progress of the research study on learning. It investigates and examines the research strategy including its plan and tactic. The main aim of this research study was to scrutinize the phenomenon of learning. This study was an exploratory case. It explored the case in order to discovery the fundamental principles. It was targeted at recognizing and understanding the issues concerning learning within the concerned members. The concerned members were the participants. Through research, the study was to get the researcher to cooperate with the participants so as to achieve a good relationship and attain the targeted objective. What I consider to be structurally good about the thesis methodology The Introduction The introduction assists the reader to having an understanding and knowledge of the report. The research entailed methodologies that were essential in finding the correct and accurate information about learning. This study involved participative action research which is an emancipatory method of action research. This method of research is usually implemented since it is favorable in unstable and difficult operating environments of a project. This research study was to create a favorable context for the participants and the researcher in order to form a good relationship for the purpose of the research. The advantage of using this method is that it encourages co-researches to execute various duties on research by being provided with several stages of learning within the process of research. This is evident since the method mandates the participants to play some part in the research as researchers. The action research is a social research strategy that is focused on humans in search of a solution to the client. It also addresses the anticipations of the social science society by providing the understanding to the organizational process. Use of clients This was a key goal of the objective since the team comprised of several participants who were expected to work together. Action research is a good research method since learning is a fundamental measure of the action research process. Dynamic organizational changes the environment immediate to the project team. It is a key factor in the introduction and sequencing of the participative action research. The participative action research was presented in a structurally good form. This is because it involves contributors to participate fully. In this action research, the participants undertake the position of researchers. Use of co-researchers The participants are involved in all the processes of the research. They are meant to conduct the research on their own or behave as co-researchers. This is basically a good mechanism of conducting the research because it gives the participants a chance to explore the areas that affect them. The participants are free to investigate any issue that they feel it needs attention. They are involved in identifying the problem and also solving it. The reason why participative action research is structurally good is that, feedback, knowledge, justification and truth is achieved. In the context of this study, participative action research in learning is structurally good. Learning involves two clients who are meant to learn from each other. The two clients may be a researcher and a participant. The researcher is given the prospect of getting fully involved with the information. This is enabled by the co-researcher having a good relationship with the researcher. This offers co-researchers the opportunity to develop competence in research. Through this, participative action research has offered key and essential understanding to sociological issues affecting learning mainly in the project team. Use of forums An instance was in the actual participative action research, where forums were used to get information from the participants. The forums encouraged the sharing information from different aspects. The discussions brought about different ideas and experiences about learning. Using strategic methods to collect data The learning stage explored and administers the feedback of the planning process into action. This resolved into the activity of action planning. This is the process of identifying key requirements required to carry out the activity. For instance, the learning study involved serial interviews as a planning activity. What I consider could be structurally improved about the chapter presentation The essential aspect concerning this case study that could be structurally improved is the practical action research. This type of research is a key part of research output. Practical action research encourages co-operative relationships between facilitators and practitioners. The facilitators and practitioners form a system whereby the facilitator is the consultant. The facilitator assists the practitioner to reason practically. The researcher assists the practitioners in conducting the research to detail. The researcher helps the practitioners to identify the ability of self-reflection. This aspect should be structurally improved so that the practitioner learns ways of reasoning practically and know how to implement them. The improvement will enable practitioners learn how to judge concerns correctly. This will in turn give them the capability to review and evaluate an issue with a good calculation. This will also allows them to be able to choose the correct plan to implement over any concern. Through this system, the practitioners will acquire the skill to monitor and reflect any change since the skill to observe an issue is essential to the finding of its solution. Analysis of the key lessons (if any) that I have identified from the review exercise In preparing and presenting the methodological research, there were various key lessons learnt. The review process provided the reader a comprehensive theoretical and practical explanation of the methods used within the study. This helped the reader to understand the purpose of the research and recognize the guidelines of the study. The study provides the importance of learning as a process and emphasizes its sense within the workplace. It showed that learning is an essential part of general social practice within the workplace environment. Learning involved the interaction and participation of people. The people’s sense making activities collaborated to develop their social and technical competency in their workplace. It was revealed that learning has a character relating to epistemology which tends to encourage evolution. This character is concerned with knowledge including its nature and understanding. Lessons learnt from preparation In preparing the methodology study, the significant lessons learnt were the research methods. There are various research methods. The action research outlined key methods of research. These involved input, transformation and output research processes. The input process had several key proceedings. The basic proceeding was planning. This entailed the actions of initiating the research method. In this stage, the research uses preliminary diagnosis to analyze the history of the issue to be researched in order to initiate the introduction of the study. After this, the research moves to data gathering where information is collected from the client. The collected information, which is the feedback of results, then directs the research to action planning. The input phase provides the research as a platform to learn and understand the challenges related to the research. The other basic proceeding of the methodological study preparation was action. This phase entailed learning processes, action planning and action steps. Lessons learnt from presenting In presenting the methodology study, the significant lessons learnt were the outcomes and effects of the research. The research provides results. The output is observed when the actions of the research preparation are implemented. The change in behavior is also noted from the results. The feedback from the client is analyzed in order to determine the way forward. The measurement of the outputs gives guidelines on the resolutions to apply. The resolutions are tried out in their respective fields, if they are effective, they are executed hence being part of problem solving. The presentation of a methodology chapter involves the researcher and the client in understanding the purpose of the research. The researcher has to offer a clear and fundamental result that was obtained from the clients’ feedback. This means that process of preparation has to be followed keenly in order to achieve the targeted objective. The presentation encouraged the development of learning among different groups. This is because it offered the chance for participants to freely develop and explore their knowledge of the project learning activities. The system allowed researches to be a key source of guidance. It also used them to act as facilitators of critical reflection concerning their learning performances. The presentation gave room for the discussion of the tough contextual and personal matters that influenced the practitioners’ project work. Through presentation, there was a sense of real ownership among the researcher and participants. A feeling of empowerment was created concerning learning. The levels of learning were enhanced through the research process. This led to the co-researchers to build on their relationship about learning in order to link their personal and organizational barriers for the exchange of knowledge. The success of the project from the implementation of tasks was to be employed and bring new learning that would produce reflective and better project systems. Conclusion In this study, the methodological approach involved was essential to making the study a success. There were several things that I learnt during cycles involved in the research process. The cycles include the preliminary understanding cycle, the ramping up cycle, and the major intervention cycle. All the three cycles entail four key processes. They include plan, act, observe and reflect as key elements. The methods offered an understanding research environment to the contextual and social system of learning. The study focused on learning and this as an aspect that attracted the participants in a way. The study encouraged resourceful and flexible data. This data assisted the development and enhancement of theory. The methods used were crucial to finding the value and correctly represented opportunities, and presented relevant information that could be applied in social science system. The action research methodology proved to be ultimate for developing and exploring learning as a social practice. Read More
