Somalia is an example of these countries that have remained in the spotlight for the devastating effects on its citizens. Currently, Somalia is emerging from civil war of approximately two decades of that consisted of inadequate accessibility of essential social services. Such inadequacy and lack of social sevices have remained a pervasive and chronic problem throughout the country (FSNAU-Somalia, 2014). As a result, there exists need for livelihood investment and life-saving support system for approximately 3.

2 million Somalis aimed at strengthening their resilience to shocks (TANGO International 2014, pp. 14). Certainly, this consists of nearly 870,000 individuals with seventy (70) per cent that remians as persons who are internally displaced and require life-saving humanitarian assistance. In addition, there exist other 2.3 million people that remain vulnerable to climatic shocks besides being vulnerable to food insecurity through the end of the year. Among the 2.3 million people aforementioned, nearly 206,000 of them remain as malnourished children.

Furthermore,  acutely malourished children of approximately 600,000 children and 100,000 mothers who have pregnancies or lactating and require persistent nutritional support to prevent them from becoming acutely malnourished.Mogadishu has been one of the key epicenters of violence and conflict in the Somalia; the conflicts had negative effects on the residents; particularly the women and children.  The effect of insecurity and violence on the food access of the urban poor households in Mogadishu remains vivid and a reality based on varied perspectives.

Somali associated food services both local and imported, are at record levels. Cereal prices increased in 2007 from 100% to 160% and while in 2008 it increased from 130–190%. Though prices have since declined slightly, they are all still 450–780% above the trend over a long-term (TANGO International 2014, pp. 14).
