Bullying Bullying is an antagonistic mode of conduct that is shown by an individual or a group of people through excessive use of force to pester, assault, or intimidate another person. It started long ago in the time of famous Hitler and Nazis. An individual attains an inclination by doing something continually. These actions are in different forms, such as physical buttering, abuses, intimidations and issuing of threats. All these forms of treatment amount to bullying. Bullying is carried out on basis of ages, races, religions, gender, achievements and abilities (Garrett 109). It can take place in various different settings, such as schools, in homes, in the playing fields or even in work places. The victims are usually more often isolated from the society. There are diverse characters of bullies in the world. The most common type of the bullies is those that are very violent. Most of the bullies who belong to this category usually have very robustly built bodies and have anger management concern. They are directed by their aspiration to control and have authority over others. The second type is the passive ones, who tend to be very insecure. They are not very vocal and have no admirable qualities. Usually, they tend to work under incentive of an aggressive bully and thus act as accomplices. The third group is called bully victims (Garrett 111). These people have had experience of maltreatment and hence out of urge for revenge or to secure their position, turn to bullying others. It is important to note that the victims of these groups of bullies are similar in that they are a group that is weak or segregated from the other people. There are the victims who are not provocative and are called passive victims. Most victims of bullying belong to this category. They are more often than not societal and therefore make easy target to be bullied. The other commonly bullied group is the ones who have witnessed bullying ad hence because of the trauma fear going through such an experience, hence become vulnerable (Garrett 123). The last main group of victims is that of the provocative ones. Such people behave in a manner that is very irritating hence creating room for them to be intimidated. Initially, bullying was never acknowledged as a big offense until recently when the state saw it fit to recognize this barbaric way of treating fellow human beings. This was after some serious research into the subject and making several findings and proposals. Bullying is as much a crime as is robbery with violence and the other forms of criminal offences. Nevertheless, what actually causes bullying? What turns somebody into such an irresponsible and heartless being? The causes of bullying are very many and diverse hence classified into two categories; there is the issue on an individual’s personality and the psychosocial factors. Every person recognizes him or her as being legally right and morally upright, hence not many acknowledge when they have a defect or a personality disorder. Many turn to the blame game for a scapegoat to carry out their heinous crimes (Garrett 145). They claim that nothing is wrong with them, but in bona fide sense, they are acting in inhuman behavior. Another reason on the personality category is the fact that most bullies are just envious of their victims. Hence, since they do not want to acknowledge the fact that their victim is good at something that they are not, they try to intimidate the person. The other reason why people bully because of personality complex is fear. If the bully feels threatened in some way, they may develop aggressive habit to try to keep their position in the group or organization. The personality of the victim of bullying could also be contributory to the treatment they get. If the victim is ever in the background and has done very little to be noticed, the bullies may take advantage of the situation hence bulling the victim. Psychosocial factors bring about by the surrounding environments atmosphere. For instance, if a child develops in a highly violent environment or home, they most probably will gain the mentality that only the aggressive persons survive; hence such a child will become a bully. In addition, if a child or an individual grows watching violent scenes or programs, such as wrestling, they may be influenced to become bullies. If it is in the working environment, and the work happens to be strenuous and highly competitive with personal internal conflicts, and support that is not friendly, an individual may acquire the habits of becoming a bully (Garrett 167). The impacts of this monstrous habit are very dreadful. The effects of bullying affect both the bully and the victim. For example, a child who grows being harassed looses self-confidence; hence, such a child may not grow to explore his or her full potential. Bullying affects the academic performance of students, both the bullies and the victims. Because of the induced stress, depression and fear of the victims, they do not concentrate in class, hence dropping in academics, while the bullies will not concentrate also deteriorating n performance. If it is in the working environment, the victim may not deliver to their full expectations and thus warranting them a sucking letter. The organization or institution in the process may lose a very qualified worker, who with an atmosphere conducive would have brought them great achievement. Bullying also induces a lot of fear on an individual, and hence the victim may develop inferiority complex. Also because of the stigmatization involved, some of the victims loose self-confidence and start behaving in some very withdrawn manner. Bullying is such an ugly ordeal therefore if the victim experiences it over a long period; they may develop stress disorder and end up committing suicide. Even the bullies themselves may reach a point that they just develop complex psychological problems, and commit suicide in the process. In addition, the very aggressive bullies may cause loss of lives by beating their victim to death (Garrett 132). The cases of bullying have really been on the rise for quite some time. It is thus significant to develop mechanisms on how to stop bullying and eradicating it from our society. The schools should develop rules that clearly define that bullying is not allowed and design good consequent measures. The students should be educated on what bullying entails, its effects and how to stop such harassments. In the work environment and out in the society, the individuals should take responsibility of knowing their rights. Bullying is against the law and is thus liable to be punished by law. Parents should also be in the forefront in educating their children and helping them overcome such cases. The health sector has the mandate o examine both the bullies and the victims and providing proper counseling and treatment to them so that they stop bullying and the victims overcome the emotional distress that they have suffered.
