Burngreave is situated in north of Sheffield and Manor is situated south of Sheffield. Burngreave and Manor are neighboring cities in UK. Burngreave is enriched in its culture as it holds different cultural people coming from different countries and being settled here. Burngreave is the inner city of north Sheffield. It has mixed residential tenure and is bounded by many industries which are manufacturing in nature. It has a population of more than 23000 people and highly diversified culture is present there. More than half of the people belong to the ethnic groups other than white, while 15 % are the black British and 20% are of the Pakistan origin. It is a residential area with range of housing showing diversified historic background with an industrial area setup (BNDfc, 2010). Manor is larger than Burngreave in terms of the area and it was once demolished. But slowly the city developed with the active help of the people of that region without any aid from the government sector. After the government has taken interest in building the society, it started developing. There are many regions of Manor and those have been subdivided into smaller regions for improvement in the socio-economic condition of the region (Nowell, n.d.). Socio - Economic Characteristics of Burngreave Social Burngreave has a high social housing and housing stock. It is one of the most important economic sources of Burngreave. From this different community and regional people avail housing opportunity in the area. This has created a society having a social mixture of people of Britain as well as people of different origin. It acts as an encouragement of social mixing of the citizens. Sheffield Homes Department looks after the Neighborhood Warden Scheme. This way the government interacts in the Burngreave housing and neighbor building relationship in Sheffield. This way a society is well developed and the social values are maintained. It acts as a beneficial body for providing better social community in Burngreave. As Burngreave has high social housing activity, the Government is trying to rebuild its housing society with increased development which will enhance the society providing better offerings from the government. South Yorkshire Police Department provides the people a better and secured life in Burngreave. In order to maintain the security, peace and to ensure that no clashes between the neighbourhoods take place, the government has developed such department. It has a regular surveillance over the area for maintaining peace and security to the mixed community present in Burngreave. There are many local schools and high schools for the purpose of education in the nearby area that provide good quality educational to the people of Burngreave. Economical The Housing and Estate Council is looking after the stocks of the housing affairs of Burngreave. It has shown rise in the stocks of this place and rendering the economic condition of this place better. The Burngreave Business Forum helps in coordinating efforts for looking after the existing business as well as locking for new business development making the economic condition stronger (Sheffield City Council. 2010). Socio - Economic Characteristics of Manor Social Manor is not much developed in terms of social housing and development of housing in South Yorkshire. The population of Manor is reported to be 21000 people taking 9700 household as per 2001 census report. Manor is basically focused on the education needs of the people. They have many colleges and schools which are present there for providing and encouraging better education. It has contributed to educate the people and have a social and peaceful live. Manor has lots of green areas providing lot of space for environmental development. It has Manor Park which has developed as a social living area for the Manor people. Economical The Manor area was demolished earlier and latter it was built by private holdings. The government did not interfere. Mostly the privately developed housing is present there. The people have developed the business community there for the purpose of the establishment of the economy. The economic condition has developed with due help from the government in providing different types of aid to the people of Manor (Sheffield Manor, n.d.). In both the places, the numbers of females are more compared to male. Looking at the economic details, it is found that Burngreave has higher number of managerial and professional persons than Manor. The difference is quite high according to the figures. But it has Manor that has higher number of professional persons that are in lower low managerial positions compared to Burngreave. Looking at the intermediate occupation status, both is found to be low. Looking at the number of small employers and own account workers, Manor has higher than Burngreave. Since the population is more in Manor than Burngreave, the long term unemployment is higher in Manor. The data also shows that the Burngreave employing higher managerial and professional occupations and it allows in developing of the economy of that area. More the better work force in the area more is the possibility of development. On the other side, Manor has intermediate occupation and small employer and own account workers more than Burngreave, who are contributing more in the economy of Manor. So, a proper balance is present for the growth and maintenance of the economic condition. Even with all these data, it is found out that the factors for the socio-economic development is more in Burngreave. The main reason is the market for housing stocks with the help of government. The social housing activity in Burngreave makes the economic condition stronger. This brings in cash from other regions with government interferences. Both the regions have different potentials with respect to its socio-economic activity and the composition of the population that drives them for better opportunity and development.
