This percentage is fast increasing and the government is under pressure to implement policies that ensure an improvement in Chinese Nursing Homes to improve the senior’s satisfaction in life speed (China Statistical Yearbook, 2013). The ratio of the elderly people trending from 2010 to 2050 is shown below.

There are numerous reasons why the Chinese government should formulate government policies that are aimed at helping the aging population. First, China is a developing country that has achieved great economic achievement due to the devotion of the elderly to nation-building. They spent their energy supporting the nation and now that they have no energy to support themselves anymore, it is the responsibility of the government. Furthermore, the Chinese culture demands that the elderly be taken good care of and respected (Chi, 2008).

Moreover, the aging problem in China is a result of the 1980’s One-Child Policy of the government to limit the population of the country. As such, the family structure has been transformed gradually into a 4-2-1 structure where there are four grandparents, two parents, and a single child. This problem is worse for parents who lose their only child and end up with no one to take care of them during their old age (Peking Union Medical College Hospital, 2011). The changes in the aging population can be illustrated below.

1.2 Elderly condition in Beijing
Beijing is the capital city of China and therefore, it is a political center. This paper will mainly explore strategies and policies for improving middle and high-end private Nursing Homes in Beijing. The rationale for choosing this city is derived from the fact that Beijing provides a good environment in which elderly people can be taken good care of and enjoy their lives as they get older.
