If I had chosen an Arab like me, I would not have learnt anything because they would only remind me on different aspects of my own culture which I was not interested in knowing at this time. In my questioning, I designed a wide range of questions consisting of open and closed ended ones. I thought this would make it much easier to for her to answer all the questions without any problem. Also, my questions touched on different aspects of American culture including her experiences, expectations, interactions, attitudes, likes, dislikes and the general opinion on her family and community as a whole.

So, she told me that she is proud to be an American citizen because it has provided her with a comfortable environment to live. As a person, she is a friendly individual who likes to walk in the company of her friends. Apart from her love for friendship, she has a passion for hard work and likes to enjoy jazz music, video games and modern clothe fashion designs. This is what pleases her most. In fact, her association and identity with jazz culture eases her most and makes her feel so important.

However, she said that she does not like selfishness and anyone who violates other people’s rights. In her answers, Rose said to me that they are guided by ethical codes of conduct that are accepted by their Christian church. In her family, respect, freedom, generosity and competition are the core values. So, every member of her family is required to be hardworking and loving. These are the guidelines that the family uses to measure success. Without hard work, they cannot be considered as successful people who will be useful in future.

On further inquisition, she told me that it such beliefs that her family is rich and cannot go without food mainly because of their strong belief in hard work. However, the family and her community are not happy with anything that destabilizes them such as violence,
