Sociologists have been seeking how and why deviance has existed in the societies. Therefore, they have been using different theories to explain the factors contributing to the deviant society. An example of the theory is the feeling and development of an attitude that the means to achieve the society’s goals and objectives are closed to one person. The deviant behavior depends on whoever is defining it, most people get the deviant behavior through the company and deviance occur as a result of socialization and exchange of ideas which result to the lack of self-control.
Foucault explains that the post modern society is characterized by the lack of free will and expression on the part of the individuals. Therefore, he has worked hard toward categorizing and controlling the human behavior through the use of discipline. Consequently, he has explained this through sensitizing about the prison since it controls the behavior of the people through punishing them and correcting their crimes and deviance. The modern state has also embraced this through controlling the mass deviant behavior unlike the individual ones.
Michael Foucault worked on the field of sociology and explains the effects of crime, punishment and discipline in the modern society. In most of the times, the modern society deviates from the social norms which need to be corrected and punished. The society should be enlightened on the good moral standards that should be embraced in effort to achieve a good society. Punishment in the middle ages in Europe was in the form of torture, and criminals were viewed as the injustices and curse to the individuals and the society.
