Presentation Critique al Affiliation Presentation Critique The main thrust of this paper is to create a critical analysis on the lecture of the well-known professor in sociology, Prof. Lord Giddens. The main theme of the lecture is Understanding society. This paper will discuss three major points. These include the (1) topic of the lecture, (2) the effectiveness of the lecture, and the (3) weaknesses in the lecture that need to be strengthened. The lecture generally talks the history of human society.

Professor Giddens pointed out the history of human society can be analyzed in these factors: time, space, and power. Giddens further stated that small cultural societies in the past viewed time to be measured only by the repetition of season and days. However, as the society continues to evolve, time, space, and transcendence played a significant difference in the society especially in the printing industry and electronic communications. Morse code and telegraph were the first communication technologies invented which marked the beginning of modernity.

Professor Giddens emphasized these early inventions can greatly cause mass welfare. However, along with the benefits of these technologies are their negative effects to the society. Giddens stated time and space had greater possibility of producing war and violence which did happened and is still happening in the past and in the present. In fact, morse code played a significant role during the second world war (Lesson, 2012). He further added the internet is the culmination of these electronic inventions.

The presentation was presented well by professor Giddens. As expected it was full of new knowledge and information with regard to the history and evolution of the human society. His arguments with regard to the topic were very strong. He further interacts well with his audience by asking them questions and by inserting some ice breakers (such as jokes) in the middle of his lecture. However, there were found flaws with regard to the delivery of the message. Yes, the information and the arguments of the Prof.

Giddens were very much strong but the audio seemed to bother the listeners. There were times in which the audio is clear. While there are also instances in which the audio seemed to be unlikely. In conclusion, the presentation of professor Giddens is nearly perfect except for the audio. The information presented is not only a key element towards having a successful presentation, but also the audio and the voice of the speaker do also matter. Hence, it must also be put into a great consideration in order to ensure that the listeners will be able to clearly understand and comprehend the lecture.
