However, as the society continues to evolve, time, space, and transcendence played a significant difference in the society especially in the printing industry and electronic communications. Morse code and telegraph were the first communication technologies invented which marked the beginning of modernity. Professor Giddens emphasized these early inventions can greatly cause mass welfare. However, along with the benefits of these technologies are their negative effects to the society. Giddens stated time and space had greater possibility of producing war and violence which did happened and is still happening in the past and in the present. In fact, morse code played a significant role during the second world war (Lesson, 2012). He further added the internet is the culmination of these electronic inventions.

Article Critique
Interestingly, both authors also state that the public do not want to believe that the crime rates are steadily going down. The article provides a significant revelation on how the public views crime and what role the media plays in this standpoint. Had the media been doing their part and providing the public with “reliable information about crime” (Warr, 2000, p.483) instead of “eagerly meeting a consumer demand for gore and tragedy” (Keohane, 2009), then perhaps the public will not continue to be victims of the fear of crime that some people utilize to “entertain, titillate, or sell” (Warr, 2000, p.483).
