After she approved the interview, K-House was assured of the right to withdraw from the interview and of her anonymity. A recording device was also sourced for use in the interview. The participant in this interview was a teenage girl named K-House, who was recovering from anorexia. K-House is a client at the agency and I have been mentoring her for the last two years, during which time she has been suffering from anorexia. Anorexia is an eating disorder where an individual limits their beverage or food intake intentionally, specifically due to a strong desire for thinness, as well as a fear of weight-gain (Michel et al, 2012).

In this case, the individual has a distorted perception of their body shape and weight, which, in turn, has an unduly significant impact on their self-concept. Anxiety and obsessions about weight and food could lead to eating rituals, along with intensive, strict exercise routines aimed at losing weight or avoiding weight gain. Although the causes of anorexia are not clear, a combination of psychological, environmental, and genetic and biological factors have been implicated as a cause for anorexia.

This disorder affects the individual, as well as their friends and family, affecting all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups. Most anorexics are female, introverted, hard-working, perfectionists, highly self-critical, and resistant to change (Michel et al, 2012). Some of the symptoms associated with anorexia include lack of energy, dizziness and fainting, irregular menstruation, and slow heart rate among others. The interview followed a deductive approach, in which a social theory was first identified and then the interview conducted so as to test the implications of the theory on the information collected.
