Social hate crimes are also a major entity of hate crime victims where the victimizers feel that the only means to bettering their community is through victimizing the lower social class, trash. African Americans top the list of hate crimes lists (Perry, 2009).

Causes and Effects of Hate Crimes

Before identifying the causal and resultant effects of hate crimes, a definition of hate crimes is in order. Hate crimes are those that tend to violate individual civil rights catalyzed by personal hostility towards a race, origin, sex orientation gender, religion, or creed. The homeless, physically challenged and the mentally disturbed are no exception o this matter. Mirror imaging is one root cause of hate crimes, where one expects another individual to act in a way that would favor them. For instance, straight people expect everyone to be attracted to the opposite gender whereas this is unrealistic for the gay community. Such indifference and lack of satisfaction with the present status lead to the upheaval. Black people are stereotyped as inferior, where they defy this and do better or equal to other race counterparts, the missing acceptance will normally raise adrenaline and lead to violations. In short, a lack of appreciation for the victim is the sole causal factor for any hate crime. The effects are unimaginable. The victims who cannot handle the gravity of such matters tend to seclude themselves from the rest of society and agonize on their own. Motivation is lost to reach a goal where interventions are not made. Some of the victims may not take the humiliations lightly and may take physical violence that could call up an entire flock of victims that lead to endless wrangles (Perry, 2009).

Actions to Minimize Hate Crimes Occurrences

Education is the root of convincing all generations that all persons are equal which would play a key role in stabilizing the situation. Equal consideration of resources of the government and campaigns to disregard such crimes come in handy in discouraging potential victimizers.  Hate crimes have psychological effects not only on the direct victim but the target group as well. Below are some of the recommendations to counter and control hate crimes (Perry, 2009).

Begin conflict resolution in communities, workplaces, and schools and reject stereotypes all incidents of hate crimes and discrimination must be reported and action taken. Encourage peer education, advocate for violence avoidance, and begins support centers for the affected to avoid recurrence (Perry, 2009).
