I will try to reflect on the advices received from the authority based on models of socialization presented by Sigmund Freud, Carol Gilligan and Erik. H. Erikson. The existing ethics and morals of the modern society are formed on the basis of theories and models developed renowned psychologists and sociologists. This brings in the differences in concepts and thoughts of different societies and individuals. Freud’s theory of psychoanalytic personality has categorized the personality of an individual in three parts namely, id, ego and superego.
According to the Freud, id is dominated by the pleasure principle that focuses on fulfilling the needs and wants of the person whereas ego and superego guides the desires within reality and ethics (Epstein, 2013). In this scenario, it can be stated that both the new student employees are mainly driven by their id and the balance between ego and id is not proportional. The suggestions of Ron DesVue and Rudy Day about confronting the employees are more in accordance with the superego and ego elements of Frued.
They are concerned about the ethical morality of the workplace and are trying to stop it. On the other hand, confronting them directly as advised by Ron DesVue can trigger aggressive behavior which will again be directed by the id and ego will further get recessive in nature. On the other hand, following Rudy Day’s advice will also signify misuse of authority which is again organizational principles and social ethics. However, Shirley Wright’s suggestion is directed towards achieving the balance between ego and id.
Loss of balance can happen between id and ego can take place based on the situations faced by an individual but if it can be controlled in a position where social balance can be maintained than it becomes acceptable (Stam, 2010).
