Substance abuse theory: While number of theories and postulates can be correlated to the different circumstances in ordinary struggling families in terms of sociological and psychological mindset and conditions, the substance abuse theory is one of the most evident and commonly implementable one in this regard. It pertains to the possible use or abuse of the different types of drugs that may be brought into use by the adults of the family members. These drugs may come in a variety of items which are all dangerous towards the human health.

According to the substance abuse theory, alcoholism is one of the most prominent of the problems and substance abuse element which finds its usage in the different spheres of the struggling families and individuals. Desperation due to failures within, or family disputes or possible lack of opportunities or failing to pass some tests or social recognition and accreditation measures also lead an individual to adopting the substance abuse theory status where excessive dependency is observed over drugs and other harmful elements that may temporarily appear to be comforting and relieving, yet in long run are totally disastrous and lead to long terms failures that may not be recoverable through therapies and counseling processes.

Frustration aggression theory (Sanderson ,386) is another similar theory that reflects that kind of mind, body language and actions that are reflected based on the circumstances, the success or failure met with. In the context of the family environment and family relationship, the frustration aggression theory states that the individual becomes aggressive when their goals are not met with. This may be in terms of the harmony so existent in the family or the absence of thereof. Also, the frustration aggression factor and theory can be applied to the social dynamics and social variables.

For example the fact that approval, recommendation and recognition of an individual in a society leads them to behaving in a manner that is polite and respectful towards others, while the non recognition and the absence of consonance within the family ranks or the social status so desired leads to aggression. This aggression speaks out and shows up in the various forms. These include the possible usage of harsh words, and in extreme cases usage of violence and force against the unarmed people within the family or the colleagues and relatives associated in the close circle.

The possible drawback of the theory of frustration and aggression is stated in the form that it often fails to comprehend and provide clear answers to the problems faced in the most developed and relatively progressive societies that may show up different kinds of issues faced. For example the possible introduction of technology, people’s reliance on technology and the digital means, the alternative means of interaction, all these are termed as the factors that are relatively complex when it comes to the frustration and aggression theory implementation and adoption.

Variation and subjectivity between the different cultures is another variable that may reflect upon as the possible weakness of this theory. References: Sanderson, Catherine A. Social Psychology. John Wiley & Sons, 2009
