Nursing Home Facilities - Essay Example

This paper derives more information about nursing home facilities in the United States in terms of the type of care they provide, costs, insurance and Medicare/Medicaid coverage, current issues or concerns. It also explores the types of nursing home facilities available in my area. Based on my research, in established that there are 16, 100 nursing homes in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1). The nursing homes have a bed capacity of 1.7 million beds with an occupancy rate of 86 percent (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1).

By May 2014, there were 1.5 million people receiving care at the nursing homes with an average length of time since admission being 835 days (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1). From my research, I found four key pieces of information that are most insightful. They include the fact that there is a 16% drop in nurse assistants’ hours per resident day and that 90% of U.S. nursing homes have too low staffing levels to provide adequate care (The American Association for Justice 1). I also found that nursing homes and care facilities in the U.

S provide a range of quality in care and many models of care and that it is quite difficult for residents and their families to find the best nursing homes in U.S. I chose this information because it was unique and challenged my rational thought that it is easy to find a nursing home in U.S that can offer consistent quality care. Indeed, I chose these pieces of information because they reflected the true position of nursing homes in U.S. Moreover, there are significant research findings and analysis to certify these pieces of information.

This information is relevant to the course content and enhances my understanding on nursing homes in U.S. I chose these pieces of information because they defined the roles, capacity, and inadequacies of nursing homes in U.S.
