Discussion Board al Affiliation Discussion Board What changes should be made in the helping system to better serve childrenin the future? The changes that should be made in the helping system to better serve children in the future are as follows: (1) the questioning or interrogation process should be conducted only by one authorized personnel of the justice system. This person would be responsible and accountable to document, record, communicate and disseminate the information disclosed by the child on the incidents relating to the abuse.
As such, the child would not have to be subjected to repeated inquiries from other justice practitioners. (2) The evaluation and litigation process should be facilitated at the most urgent time frame to enable the child to move on. The court should always take into consideration that the justice system should put the best interests of the child in priority. Therefore, since it is expected that court cases take considerable amounts of time before these are finally resolved, holistic support and protection should be accorded to children who were traumatized or victimized by abuse.
Aside from physical protection by ensuring that the children are placed in the safest custody possible, social workers and justice practitioners must ensure that children are accorded with psychological and emotional support, as well as mental and spiritual support from parents, caregivers, teachers, and other community helpers to enable the child to focus on positive endeavors. As asserted, “each child should be seen individually from the perspective of age, gender, reactions to stress, and general psychological makeup” (Crosson-Tower, 2014, pp. 263-264). Therefore, proper interventions must be applied after accurate assessment of the needs and personality profile of the children who were involved in abuse or who were required to go through court cases.
