On the contrary, some of the Han Chinese who also oppose the movement are not happy at being considered as second rate citizens by the policies that are associated by the People’s Republic of China whereby the ethnic autonomy policies discriminate against them. Some postulate that because the previous Chinese dynasties owned Xinjiang before the reign of the Uyghur Empire, the region is rightly theirs as opposed to the Uyghurs. After the President of China Xi Jinping had concluded his visit to Xinjiang, there was an explosion at the south Railway Station of Urumqi and this was followed a knife attack that took place at the same place.

Three people succumbed to their injuries and seventy nine were injured after the mobs that attacked people with knives at the exits following the blast were done with their assault. Two individuals considered religious radicals and members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement who both died in the blast were held responsible for the occurrence (Park). On the 1st of March, 2014, twenty nine people died and one hundred and third were injured after ten men who were armed with long knives stormed the station in the Southwest city of Kunming which has one of the largest railway stations in the southwest of China.

Witnesses stated that the men who were dressed in black outfits stabbed and attacked people with knives and cleavers. On October 28, 2013, the Chinese authorities stated that there was a Xinjiang link to the jeep that ploughed in crowds in Tiananmen Square and killed five people while injuring more than forty others (Park). The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei stated that the attack that took place on 22 May which targeted the open air market in Urumqi’s Shayibake district which is mainly populated by the Han.
