Drug use in the college & work environment Drugs play a much different role in modern society than they useddecades ago. The users of drugs have transformed into influencing the scholars and the learners themselves. One of the drugs that have a massive usage by college students is marijuana and alcohol (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 98). Like in the business world, where a very influential and successful businessperson may be in real drugs and alcohol taking, the trend in today’s society depicts scholars in college following the same example. College students can be successful while known to be using marijuana. Even though statistics implore that marijuana, use may increase the risk of academic problems, in the business world, Steve Jobs and Carl Sagan and many host of others have never had academic problems or lapse in their enterprise despite their use of marijuana (Flowers 98). Whether smoking marijuana and taking beer makes someone stupid, is a theorem that largely depends on the individual’s actions thereafter. According to one of the seasoned marijuana smoker (Jonny Green), smoking weed makes a student stagnate in memory is a stereotype. His perception towards that notion is that this was the biggest pet peeves he had to deal with. Many of the college mates could always presume that they more intelligent than he could manage. In work place, college students can as well be successful as long this marijuana use is put into a considerable use(Flowers 95). This allegation, of him being less intelligent, arose simply because he continuously smoked throughout their course in college. On the side of the colleges, their proposition builds its body from the conception that their brains are clean by smoking weed like their colleague (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 167). One would want to refute this claim from the colleagues since as much as one has never smoked weed, that may not be a universal observation that all and sundry are intelligent. What is to be said of those who are less intelligent and they have neither seen nor smoked weed. The same may aspect arises in personnel’s case study and his history in smoking weed. Not all who have smoked it during their school days have graduated as the most intelligent (Malone 88). A college student, who manages to successfully scale the realms of his studies and pass with an high mark should still face less restriction as to his use of marijuana or alcohol in his business world. Like the earlier proposition, personality influences a lot the idea of drugs taking (Trevouledes 107). The stereotypes attached to those who smoke weed is something Jonny, had to deal with almost for half of his life, and wonders whether there are college students who still find challenge in dealing with such stereotypes? Jonny asserts that as a college student, he managed to smoke all through, his teachers and colleagues knew about it, but what was more important is he kept his mind focused on the bigger goal and that was his academics (Flowers 112). As he advocates, this drug is worthy taking, and its side on the takers desired objective. Jonny says that he graduated from college successfully, and on top of all that, he won the selection as the ‘student of the year’ for that course/program (Trevouledes 65). This came as amazement upon his colleges for he smoked marijuana everyday during his course time and still balanced his academics successfully. According to Jonny’s case study, it is true that college student can smoke weed and still be successful in their majors. This is proposition that would span a lot of debate, as to whether marijuana gets in the way of success in college (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 105). Nevertheless, looking at Jonny’s case, yes, college students can still e successful while taking marijuana, therefore, in their work place also, they can be successful if allowed to smoke. Edward M. Czuprynski, one of four panel members who sat for the debate in legalization of marijuana in Delta College confessed that if an individual used marijuana or alcohol in a more responsible way, it did not matter as long as it adds to his success (Flowers 90). In interpreting Edward’s ideas, he seems to proclaim that in an event where one’s use of marijuana results into deteriorating effects, then that is not responsible. Being in that Michigan debate, Edward assertions is that marijuana could be good for college students not only for their academic success but also in their business occupations. In influencing someone’s success, Edward went on to show that marijuana has the same impact as taking of alcohol. To him, if anyone, including college students used it responsibly and sensibly, it brought no negative harm (Trevouledes 77). The two drugs are just mere social substance and an individual should not allow them to come between their successes. Edward’s claims reflects back on earlier argument that the personality of the individual or the intent of smoking marijuana is what should be the bases for confronting whether taking these drugs would deter any college student of being successful. According to many successful students in the Michigan Delta College, the campaign to make marijuana illegal stems from the conceived belief that marijuana legalization may act as a gateway drug into many others illegal substance that would follow (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 70). The percentage rise in the use of marijuana in college levels, especially in U. S. A, can serve as rationale to its positive side. One should consider that the scholars who are in University or college level are relatively bright fellows, and just like in business world, the careful use of marijuana as a social substance does not influence negatively their success, be it inside the academic period or after the school life. Most of these users end up being very successful and people of high intellect (Trevouledes 120). Statistics shows that 67% of 18 to 29 year old, the exact age of being in college, support the legalization of cannabis. Despite the undying call to ban cannabis use among college and society in general since 1969, a Gallup poll released recently indicate that majority of the post teenage youths and adults back the legalization of cannabis (Flowers 55). This begs the question as to how many successful graduates of college are outside in the society, doing successful business yet they smoke weed every day, as innovators and job creators hence tantamount reasons to conclude that pot is not something that ruins scholars lives. In addition, collegiate athletics, as insiders would contend, the actual percentage of student-athlete marijuana users is much higher. Evidence suggests that marijuana use among the most competitive and successful athletics is up (Fertman 78). This is a true assumption owing to the report released by Virginia State in U. S. A. The fact that these athletes graduate from college and still be successful in their endeavors of life after college, like being innovative leaders in their business related ventures, even though they smoke weed is positive claim that college weed smokers can still be successful in life. For example, a year after the federal prosecutors pointed out that California grown marijuana found market among many college athletes, at the championships competitions, positive tests for marijuana came life. This was an enormous increase in one academic year given the span of time from 28 users in 2008-2009 competitors to 71 positive users’ tests (Fertman 123). One would wonder why a college student would use cannabis before a championship exercise. The conclusion to this situation is that marijuana, like the wine taken by rich and successful individuals around the globe in business world, makes the athletes swift. The same may apply to college students claiming the right to smoke weed at their work environment. As long as they deliver, these college graduates should have the privilege to enjoy their marijuana smoking. This might be a myth to much research, but the stimulations of nerve associated with marijuana use might as well account for such an increasing rise of its use in many upcoming successful college athletes. The fact that many world-renowned athletes, without going personal, always fall guilty of using marijuana before, and in the midst of their preparations for races explains its widespread preference for college students to transfer their desire for marijuana even at their work place. Who knows, their success in their department might have its attachment to the behavior of cannabis smoking (Fertman 90). Moreover, others, who have escaped the anti-doping agency, have gone to become successful out of the belief that they attach cannabis with during their exercises. This therefore would form a solid platform as to why college students may as well smoke cannabis and become successful individuals in their business environment. Charles Thompson, head athletic trainer at Princeton University admits that stories come and die about the college use of marijuana among the athletes. The truth of the matter is that this is the norm to so many of the college athletes for they attach athletic success to use of marijuana. In 2010, the college football season saw marijuana arrest affect the program at Florida, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. The bigger picture, which ought to come up, is whether these athletes end up performing in their athletic competitions (Fertman 95). If the answer is yes, then as they say, the end justifies the means. It would be completely uncalled for, for an employer to sack his manger for having waterproof evidence that he smokes cannabis. The underlying concept before the action comes to force should be to counter check whether this manager has been performing or underperforming in his portfolio (Malone 90). Most definite answers, even if it were the lowest of the employees, the results would show that these smokers are outstanding performers in their disciplines. Therefore, if any college student has had a chain of smoking habit in his college life, and graduates successfully, and transfers the same behavior into the business world, and still cap it up with exponential results, then the college graduate can be successful while still smoking or taking alcohol in their business areas of occupations (Trevouledes 88). In addition, most of the world-beaters in business have a history of smoking weed in their areas of success. To mention but a little, some like U.S.A President Barack Obama, reality talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey, and many others have reached a feet that no other human capacity in history has made it happen (Flowers 70). They have even made it public that they smoke weed and others take alcohol yet they have never scampered in their business ideas. Ironically, they have led their teams into distinct levels of success one cannot imagine. Come to imagine that most of these open lovers of cannabis were once college students, most notably Obama’s success at Harvard school of law (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 85). The assumption here is probably he took a bite of it. However, did this deter the dream and passion of success we see in Oprah Winfrey’s defiance of age to continue breaking records by transforming lives through her famous talk show? The option is that it has not done that much damage, infarct, what many would agree to is that marijuana use has given them post college immortal business ideas that leave many astonished. In the example of these open smokers, they just blew pothead stereotype up in smoke (Malone 77). Same may apply to college students, who take alcohol and cannabis for pleasure. In an event where the college graduate is unable to yield fruits in his area of jurisdiction, and proven research connects that to his persistent use of marijuana or alcohol, then the same college graduate has no privilege of smoking or taking alcohol at his area of occupation at work (Flowers 142). Though long standing findings of marijuana opponents’ points to the seen fact that marijuana and alcohol use drives one to long-term effects such as lack of motivation in one’s occupation, a sampling of successful users suggests that it bolsters their innovativeness and motivation on the other hand. Some of these successful post-graduate students are today the most influential people in the history of American politics, Justice, Entertainers, and Entrepreneurs. According to some like, Maya Angelou, they admit into using marijuana in their college life, once or twice but this has never disconnected them from their dreams (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 98). With this successful example, the main idea in this research is to dispel the myth that weed smokers are nothing but turn out later to be mere losers. Instead of all these stereotyped effects, majority of these college, and post college graduate have had renewed motivation, and highlighted the fact that, they are typically productive and oftentimes quite successful people in their areas of occupation. In conclusion, many of the American’s and globally successful individuals have smoked marijuana and taken beer, not only in their school days but also inside their working areas. This proposition should not refute the fact that there are real damaging side effects of using marijuana (Flowers 120). Some college individuals have found themselves in the deteriorating path, while others have faced the sack due to marijuana or alcohol use in their jobs. That is a fact but the reality that many as well have come out successfully should give a substantive rationale to allow marijuana and alcohol taking in areas of jurisdiction (Malone 78). Statistics also show that marijuana is the second most frequently used drug by college students. More than 46.9% have nodded into marijuana use at their college life, but the transition to working level for many is minimal. Just like is in life, there are things in college knowledge that one has to do that are not particularly pleasant, just smoking and alcohol taking (Gardner, John, Jewler, and Betsy 122).
