For this purpose the authors collected information through more than 25,000 reports through a website and the data on the website was being managed and updated by the users themselves. The website that was used to collect information was www.hookers.nl. The article states that use of condoms can decrease the chances of customers as well as prostitutes being infected with STDs. The article states that around 30% of the prostitutes had experienced such encounters and around 23% of the customers experienced such encounters. The article further states that such practices are more common when the prostitute is older and may seem to be unattractive to the customer. The article further adds that such practices are quite prevalent in markets where customers pay a higher price for the prostitutes such as the escort service industry. The author argues that their research proved that when higher amount of money was involved, unsafe sexual practices were quite evident. The author states that this is because higher wages paid to the prostitute makes the prostitute give up their health protection. The author states that this is even true especially in those countries that are recognized as Low Countries. Low Countries are those that have a lower per capita income. The author even states that certain customer prefers to indulge in unsafe sex. The author states that their findings confirm that unsafe sex even take place because prostitutes fear that if they allow such sexual encounters, the customers may respond in a violent manner. The author conducted a regression analysis and identified that customers who were involved in unsafe sexual practices were more satisfied as compared to customers who indulged in protected sex.
