1. As a people we know very little and understand even less, about how the banking industry, Wall Street, and the politicians in Washington work. Their symbiotic relationship is one that seems to be non-detrimental to their kind in the upper crust of the political and economic strata, but serves as anathema to those in the lower income bracket of society. From this video, I learned that as a people, we are up against an immovable force economically because Wall Street controls everything and there is no political resolve in Washington to change that system.

I am also sad to learn that our politicians and economic strategists in the government view the community banks and the big banks as two different entities rather than just one. So that the community banks are punished for the mistakes of the big banks while the big banks act like spoiled children whose parents are incapable of punishing them.2. I have always believed that there is some benefit to be had from banking with the community banks. As this article points out, lesser mistakes are made when the people in charge are part of the community by being both accessible and answerable to their account holders, so much unlike the big banks.

However, I do not believe that a mass transfer to community banking will be a solution either because if a bank ceases to serve a small number of clients, then they too will be prone to the same pitfalls as the big banks and their decision makers. Although the article seems to present a viable solution, I believe that it is only a band-aid solution because the bigger problem, of proper accountability among banks still exists for the account holders.
