There are many things to learn from the article. The first thing is that morbidity, health and social problems from teenage pregnancy need to be overemphasized (Maliki, 2012). In addition, teenage pregnancy has medical, psychological, and social consequence. This is the source of the teenager’s social deviance. There has also been little research done on teenage pregnancy. There were various significant findings from the research. The first key finding was that teen engages in early sexual intercourse. This was supported by the work of Land (2009) that had showed that teenagers had been engaging in early sexual activity (Maliki, 2012). The outcome of the results also revealed that low socio-economics status of parents causes teenage pregnancy. This was supported by Popenoe (1998) work that had revealed that most of teenagers getting pregnant were from poor socio-economic status parents (Maliki, 2012). The outcome also revealed that cultural factors caused teenage pregnancy. It also showed that parent permissiveness contributed to teenage pregnancy. Teenage sex behavior was also a leading contributor to teenage pregnancy.
This was corroborated by female problem report of 2010 that indicated that some life circumstances placed young girls at a higher risk of being teen mothers (Maliki, 2012). The result also indicated that the effects of teenage pregnancy were school drop out, low self-esteem, and early parenthood. The school drop out and low self-esteem was supported by the report of Robin (2011 that showed that education failure and school drop out are the harmful effects of teenage pregnancy, and low self-esteem as a negative impact of teenage pregnancy (Maliki, 2012).
