It has become imperative for United s of America to impose a strict ban on the unnecessary purchase of guns. The main idea of the chapter revolves around different strategies and programs implemented by US government to control the unnecessary use and purchase of guns. Some of these programs include buyback programs, alterations on guns and cooling off periods. Buyback programs include the efforts carried out by the state officials to control the purchase of guns by asking civilians to bring in guns in exchange of money.

However, the government has failed to fully control the purchase of gun in such states. In my opinion, people are willing to exchange their old guns with the amount they are being offered in order to buy new guns. Alterations on guns enable the gun owners to personalize his gun in order to avoid its illegal use. The idea of introducing personalized guns has completely failed. Cooling off period is another technique used to limit the person from buying a gun in a heated moment. The authorities or the dealers conduct a background check on the purchaser but it is difficult for the officials or the concerning dealers to keep a thorough on the person.

In some cases, people ask the other ones to buy on their behalf by bribing them. As a result, this technique has also failed in imposing the ban on gun purchase. I personally agree to the idea that government should focus on stabilizing the mental health facilities in the country to study and analyze the various factors that can change an innocent person’s mind into a criminal one. It is imperative for the government to invest their time and money more into addressing the problems and issues faced by people in order to overcome the crime rate.
