Download file to see previous pages... The teenagers remain determined throughout the film to pursue their basket ball dream. The teenagers joined the scout team of St. Joseph High School. The team was located in Westchester, in Illinois (Stephen, 1995).
The team experienced a vast of white members with a reputable basket ball program, of old pupils from NBA and the great Isaiah Thomas. The teenagers Agree and Arthur come from a humble background in the Neighborhood of African American in Chicago. The documentary featured in Sundance Film Festival where it attained the award of Audience Award for Best Documentary (Robert, 1994).
William gates had to contend with poverty levels in the society. The fact the two basket ball players were African altered everything (Zangwill & Biderman, 2004). The film realized a high recognition that it became a documentary yet; the African American race experienced a better part of discrimination in relation to basketball. The film appears devoid in terms of color and the intensity, likened with the lives of Agee and Gates close relations (Agee et al, 1994).
Agee and Gates ghetto life bar them from maintaining a glossy status. The people that surrounds them are racists and uncaring. Hoop Dreams tries to capture basket ball as a jackpot professional sports’ education. The privileged white in the society exploit the young, black males in town to attain the promising sport returns. The film also captures the deep rooted elements of stereotyping that refers to the ghetto residents. The film captures more information than the basket ball story. Within the story, other themes relating to the families crop up; including the value attached to extended family (Agee et al, 2005).
The African American Maintain their culture of love and sharing via family gatherings. The families would gather and celebrate together.
