Although various programs have been launched around the world for the past decades, violence reduction has become more cumbersome for the policy makers due to lack of feedback where they can learn from experience (Harris, 2005). According to the research, the crimes, drug abuse and violence include individuals who are characterized with history of violence, poverty or originating from a community with high rate of residential instability.

The University of New York on the other side launched clear and straightforward mission with the help of Public Safety Department. The mission was to create a secure and safe environment for the staff, faculty, students and visitors in order to pursue their aspirations and goals. Similarly, the University of Minnesota is also committed in maintaining security and safety to all individuals. The institute mainly focuses on providing same opportunities and educational access to everyone regardless of their sex, color, race, disability, national origin, sexual orientation and religion.

On the other hand, the University of Minnesota has various bodies that deal with Students who engage in criminal acts. These bodies include; Grievance policy, federal Law, and Student Conduct Code. In addition, the school also has various projects that help in reducing criminal acts as well as punishing the individuals involved.

In order to protect the community around it, New York University has security officers who work daily to maintain security. Additionally, the school has an emergency number with call boxes located all over the campus. These measures help in preventing crime acts and increasing security in the surrounding (Boulding, 2010). Security infrastructure on the campusesThere are several projects in the campus that had been formed to help reduce the rate of insecurity in the community. The Chicago Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence among School Age Youth is one of the projects launched by the Crime Lab.

There are most promising projects such as Becoming a Man (BAM) where several individuals apply and have the potential to reduce gun violence in Chicago. Additionally, the Clery Act is a federal law that requires various universities to report criminal activities and safety information noticed on campus and in the neighboring areas to the campus community (Bhopal, 2009). New York university call boxes that have been placed all over the school serves as a way of dealing with emergency for safety purposes.

Moreover, the NYU helps the school in maintaining security since it has a capacity to send blast texts through email or voice messages to cell phones in order to pass in formation in case of emergency. The University of Minnesota also has the University Police that help in reducing crime rate.Increment or decrement of crime in recent yearsAccording to the current research by the universities, criminal offences have been high for the last few decades. For instance, in the research carried out by the University of Chicago, most people, around 500,000 lost their lives due to crimes while properties worth billions of dollars are lost as a result of theft.

The findings also discovered that the best methods of reducing crime and violence had not been discovered thus explaining the reason for the crime rate increment (Brown, 2009).
