Extract of sample "Body Ritual among the Nacirema"

It provides a sense of well-being. Sociological studies have shown that social relations and cultural beliefs hold great importance as ritual healing. Interaction with ritual symbols provides great efficacy to the physiological reactions, and this leads to healing. For example, sacrificing a black goat or a cow and eating its flesh on a festive occasion is a kind of ritual that has some kind of charismatic effect on the body, because the mind accepts the fact that the ritual is going to heal the body.

Since the mind controls the body, it orders it to heal. Hence, rituals are known to have a positive effect on health at a personal, social, physical, and emotional level. However, this is only a culture-based belief. This sociological observation has enabled me to understand the world by understanding the norms of different cultures.
