Hyper Parents Applied With Abrams Structure and Agency Perspective Inserts His/Her Inserts Grade Inserts s Name22 November, 2011Hyper parenting is defined as parents’ tendency to control the lives of their children in an attempt to ensure that the children get to obtain the best in life. In this case, hyper parents will want to for example, provide their children with the best education, make sure they acquire the best form of technological gadgets and knowledge and be the best in everything.

In most cases, the parents try to ensure that their children join the best colleges as well as select the places of work to join and even negotiate the preferred salaries (CBC Documentaries 2011). The parents believe that failure for their child is not an option but rather believe in complete success at all levels of their children’s lives. In this case, the parents can be seen as having dominion and full control over their children during their early years and even when they become adults.

Theoretically, hyper parenting goes against the agency theory of human behavior. This form of parenting denies children the opportunity to do things independently as well as to make own preferred choices. Hyper parents practice what is seen as the structure form of human behavior. This refers to the continuous arrangements that act as a limitation towards the making of particular choices or partaking of the opportunities available (Barker 2005). Despite the parent’s belief that they are creating a perfect life for their children, research has indicated that hyper parenting has a negative effect on children.

On becoming adults, hyper parented kids have been found to be not fully prepared to deal with issues of the world, to be highly anxious and not able to work without supervision (CBC Documentaries 2011). Such negative effects among others are a clear indication that hyper parenting is not an effective form of parenting. It is a growing trend that should therefore, be discouraged. Children should be allowed a chance to think and act independently to enable them efficiently cope with the day to day life.
