Veteran Services This paper aims to bring out the life of a veteran. It tells us how the services offered from the college can help the veterans in their day to day life. The main focus is on how their values change over time once they are retired. The paper also brings out the roles and responsibilities of a social worker towards the veterans. VeteransVeterans are those people who with tons of experience of life behind them, guide us through all the situations in life. After a certain period of age in their life, they need the help of others physically.

Social workers are people who dedicate their life for others. Veterans are helped by the social workers in way that they are treated psychologically, mental illness is taken care and other treatments as oncology. Most of the social workers also assist the veterans in their day to day activities. Events like Christmas, Thanks giving need a lot of arrangement and the social workers assist them in arranging for these events. They expect assistance terms of guiding them in selecting proper education courses.

They need assistance in selecting best colleges which are available so that they can complete their degree. Veterans deserve and command respect. At the later stages of their life, veterans maintain a high self esteem. They do not want to be sympathized. They do expect help, but in terms of professionalism, they do not expect others to take over their work. With their tons of experience, they expertise in their work and help others in doing the same. The life of a person changes once he becomes a veteran.

When he/she is a civilian, they do not expect much help from people in assisting them. But once their life term is over, they lose the self confidence of doing things themselves and require aid. Their life style changes in a way that they do not bother much about their work. During their life as a civilian, they struggle, win and succeed. Veteran change their lifestyle in a way that they share their experience with others. The program offered by the university was a wonderful one. It helped all the target audience to convert their thinking in a more student style.

All the people who were present there, for a moment lost their present and changed the way their thinking was. The target audience is either people who are returning after a long time spending time in the army or those who are entering school after a long time. These people got an idea about how their education path should be. With their pre-admission planning session with specially trained veterans’ counselors, we got the opportunity to discuss prior academic and work experience, interests, and the many options available at Pitt (Pre-College Advising, pitt.edu). A generalist social worker should have knowledge on the psychology of the population around him.

He should understand when and where people will need their help and support. He should also be aware of what type of support is required at the right time and how he should support them. All these makes a generalist social worker stands out from the rest of them. I am a veteran and I appreciate the services offered by the college. This college is by far a head of other institutions in that it is willing to help veteran’s transition into the student lifestyle, and help them convert their military knowledge to a more civilian friendly summary.
