Extract of sample "Solution to Poverty"

I have only one suggestion on how to end this poverty. It’s like hitting two birds with a single stone. We remove their social and economic struggles with one strike.  It is very old yet it still is very relevant up this time. To end poverty, a Chinese proverb proposed a very simple solution:  “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” All members of society – the rich, the poor, and everyone in between – need to learn and live by this principle.

There needs to be a paradigm shift for all parties involved. The rich should teach instead of giving while the poor should learn instead of receiving.

On the one hand, the rich need to understand that dole-out charity does not help. On the contrary, it may even worsen the situation of the very people it wants to help in the first place. Dole-out encourages laziness and indolence. It also puts undue emphasis on the great divide between the haves and the have-nots. The rich have plenty to spare and give them to those in need. The poor is wanting on a lot of things and plans to satisfy them by queuing on a charity line.

On the other hand, the poor need to appreciate every little good thing that comes to them. That way, they will be able to see opportunity when it comes knocking on their doors disguised as a little candy. The poor should not judge the rich for what they are while at the same time loving their giveaways.

Once they’ve learned some life skills that are well-adjusted for their given locality, then that portion of the population would be turned from being beggars and scavengers into productive members of the free economy. They become micro-entrepreneurs. They start to earn a decent income of their own which they could use for the family’s needs. They may be carrying just a small change in their wallet but by their sheer number, their contribution to the dynamics of the economy is inevitable (Braziel).

In conclusion, we can remove the social and economic suffering of the poor family by first reaching out to them, not with dole-out goods but with transferrable livelihood skills. Give them jobs that would generate income for them. Teach them to earn for themselves. And once they’re earning, they have something to pay for their basic needs

Poverty can be defeated if the community – the rich and the poor – work together.
