Both the domestic and international airport is pretty close to the center of the city, just about 7 and 11 kms away respectively. If you are traveling into India then Delhi could be your entry point. If you are already in India, then of course to reach Delhi you have a number of ways. Delhi is well connected by both rail and road. Domestic airlines also connect Delhi to all the corners of India.
New Delhi Railway Station is the place you should go to make reservations for your onward journey from and back to Delhi by train1. The Railways in India is one of the largest in the world though facilities may not be of the standard you might like to have. You should be choosing first class or any of the air conditioned classes to travel by these trains. Similarly a large number of bus routes are available from Kashmiri Gate in Delhi through the Inter State Bus Service which plies the major highways of India. There are a number of local tourist operators who can take around Delhi as well as on excursions to places like Agra, Rajasthan and Simla on the Himalayan slopes.
When you are traveling with in the city, you may choose a taxi normally painted yellow and black. They have fare meters on them which they rarely use. You might have to negotiate the fare before boarding any of them. The same goes for auto-rickshaws, though of course, the fare could be as much as one third of what it might be on the taxi. In old Delhi, you get cycle rickshaws which are still cheaper.

4.0 Staying Facilities available in Delhi
A choice of hotels suiting all budgets is available in Delhi. There are five stars hotels just three kilometers from the airport to absolutely messy hotels. Ideally if you want a decent accommodation, you should go for a hotel which is better than three stars at least. Most of these hotels are clean and you get food ranging from Indian, Chinese, Tandoori, Thai, continental and western. You may select the one that is of your choice.

You may do your shopping at locations like Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi and many other shopping locations. If you visit Chandni Chowk do visit the Red Fort that is right opposite the market and has a sound and light show on the history of India. At the market, you get a variety of articles that could be a reminiscent of your Delhi visit. Also note that this market was the place from which Nadir Shah, one of the Afghan invaders, ordered plundering and a large scale massacre of Delhi.
