During the course of coordinating the fundraisers for survivors of the Indian Earthquake and Flood Relief Fund, the scale of my contribution became salient. Having coordinated the efforts to raise over $60,000, I realized the magnitude of my task and the need for more individuals to get involved. It was then I realized my true calling in life. I felt a deep yearning to obtain the necessary education and experience in order to assist the impoverished population by providing them with comprehensive medical care irrespective of their ability to provide remuneration.

Growing up I felt very fortunate in that I had excellent parents and grandparents who were very supportive in every way possible. They not only provided for my every need but they instilled in me the necessity of being charitable to the less fortunate. I remember my parents contributing to several charities aimed at helping the indigent population in India. Additionally, they have always reinforced the notion that the most valuable asset I had to offer others was my time and my genuinely altruistic nature.

I've always prided myself in my ability to respond to those in need especially in light of the fact that I've seen many individuals who are able to excel in the face of extreme indigence. Most recently my desire to become a doctor was reaffirmed when my grandparents became ill. I found myself being responsible for taking them to each and every appointment. In so doing, I realized how vital competent medical care has been in their lives. The first day I took my grandfather to his appointment he was eager to meet his doctor and begin the course of his treatment.

On the way there, I found myself reassuring him that the doctor would be able to help him. I told him that I researched the doctor and he was one of the best in the field.
