Sex trafficking is a global problem but it is more prevalent in some areas like South Dakota. The Law in South Dakota South Dakota lacks stringent laws which can effectively fight sex trafficking leading to increased cases of this modern day slavery. The Polaris project 2013 rankings show that South Dakota has got worrying levels of sex trafficking amongst all states in America. This is enough evidence to show that South Dakota has not made minimal efforts enact basic legal framework which is essential for the elimination of sex trafficking.
South Dakota currently has laws which prohibits sex and labor trafficking but the legislation is not effective enough in protecting individuals from sex trafficking (Franzen 1). The legislators of South Dakota need to understand the negative implications sex trafficking has on their citizens so that they take stern measures to combat the vice. Overview of sex trafficking Human trafficking is commercial exploitation of individuals for sex and the victims are often devalued, physically and sexually abused during the exercise.
The victims are often isolates, their fiances and immigration documents are also controlled by the traffickers (Siskin and Wyler 8). Sex trafficking in children is powered by diversity of environmental and situational variables vacillating from poverty to peer influence among others. The exact numbers of victims involved in sex trafficking in South Dakota is not known due to lack of comprehensive research and scientific data. Human trafficking is the fastest growing and the second most lucrative industry and this is the reason why most people want to engage in this business at all cost.
The demand for prostitution is of children is ever on the rise and the profits got from this illegal business are ever increasing leading to more of this human slavery (Schaeffer-Grabiel 7). All the states in the United States suffer from human trafficking and all of these states are both a source and destination of the victims and this makes its control complicated. Most of the sex traffickers target young girls between the ages 12 and 19 years old. The town of Sioux Falls is amongst the places where the perpetrators launch their dirty plans of attracting their victims into the trade.
The community in South Dakota is aware that sex trafficking is a real problem in their state but they lack the idea how to effectively combat the problem. A lot of concerns have been raised by the local resident and for now, the human rights organizations have started to put a keen eye one the operations of sex trafficking in South Dakota. The Hotel industry in South Dakota are the major facilitators of sex trafficking since it is here that the perpetrators draw their plans and execute most of their actions.
An indication of sex trafficking in South Dakota is an older man with a younger woman whispering stories mostly during the dark to avoid attracting public attention (Franzen 1). The traffickers manipulate and abuse their victims both physically and emotionally so that they control them as long as they wish in achieving their selfish goals. The technological advance has also advanced the level of sexual trafficking in Dakota since the perpetrators use the cell phones and internet to facilitate their business.
