Business Globalization Part one: Use of Technology in People’s Lives Accounting for ways through which technology has enabled interaction and communication, there is need to track use of devices such as computers, Smartphone and television. In fact, tracking use of these technological devices proofs that technology has made a significant contribution to improvement of communication. Besides, this is has shown a great improvement from conventional face-to-face communication. Integration of technology to people’s lives has become an increasing trend among numerous people in different parts of the world. In addition, technology facilitates constant connectivity, which has led to establishment of a current generation living in a globalized world. Therefore, tracking communication and interaction with technology through my Smartphone for a period of four-hours depicts that there are numerous features offered by these device. After tracking use of my technological devices such as Smartphone and laptop, I acquired understanding of the way people use technology to communicate. In this case, people are able to connect through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. In fact, accessibility to these social networking sites has been facilitated by the internet. Therefore, through my Smartphone, I was able to access information and services that I was interested in. Nonetheless, the internet plays a significant role in processes of reducing traditional barriers of communication across different parts of the world. During this period, I was using my laptop, and this made me realize that there are numerous software that have been developed along with protocols and standards aimed at enabling computers to interact through the internet. In fact, I was interacting with students from different parts of the world, thereby discussing issues regarding school projects. Therefore, collaboration platform has been developed in order to enable people share digital content (Friedman, 3). In fact, these collaboration platforms are referred to as flatteners, which expand opportunity through which people communicate and interact. These technological devices integrate internet functions, thereby making people’s lives more enjoyable. In fact, during this assessment period, I was able to watch new videos and play a game. Moreover, there are other emotional experiences, which are thrilling and exciting such watching a movie. Internet has become a social club since people have managed to develop and maintain friendships. For instance, during the assessment period, I had a good feeling of being socially connect with friends living in different parts of the world. In this case, we were able to interact and share some ideas, while making new friends. People have acquired ability to multitask, while using the internet and other technological devices. For instance, during the assessment period, I was logged into my Facebook account, whereby I was chatting with my friends; I was also logged into my tweeter account at the same time. Moreover, I was listening to Smartphone’s music, and I was still receiving calls from friends. In addition, during the same period, I got a chance to check my e-mail and play and online game. Therefore, use of technological devices among people in different parts of the world is increasing gradually with increases in levels of innovativeness and technological advancement. In addition, technology is used in order to achieve certain tasks in peoples’ lives such as learning and offering health care services. Part Two: Living Without Technology In order to understand the condition of living without technology, I conducted an assessment for a period of one hour. In this case, during this assessment, I refrained from using technological devices such as my laptop and Smartphone. On the other hand, I focused on using pens, paper and face-to-face conversation. Nevertheless, during this period, I was tempted to look at the messages and incoming calls from my friends on my Smartphone. Moreover, during this period, I was taking notes from a textbook and I was using a pen and papers instead of my laptop. In fact, I did not make many notes compared to when I am using my laptop. Nonetheless, given that I am used to using the internet for communication and interaction. I felt lonely due to lack of communication with some of my friends, who are also used to technological devices. During the second assessment period, I realized that I am used to interacting and communicating through technological devices. In this case, I could neither communicate with my family and friends nor log into my social media account such as Facebook. In fact, I felt missing out things that were going on in these social media. On the other hand, given that I am used to doing exciting things on the internet such as watching movies and playing games. I felt bored during this assessment period. I also realized that if I were to submit an assignment to my lecture, I could not send it via the internet; I would be expected to submit a hand written assignment to the lecturer’s office. During the process of taking my notes, I realized that there were some ideas that required further research by use of different books. In this situation, I was not able to access online library through the internet using my Smartphone or laptop. Instead, I could only acquire these books from the school library and this would have consumed a lot of time. Therefore, through this analysis it is evident that technology has brought significant value to people lives. Part Three: Summary of Globalization Effect on People’s Lives According to Friedman globalization has been facilitated by technology and internet through a process referred to as flattening (3). Globalization is also attributable to the high level of interconnection around the world, which is concerning hierarchy, distance, culture, status or language (Friedman, 45). On the other hand, there is a form of interruption caused by the internet in numerous ways (Carr, 133). In this case, people have lost their concentration due to the division of attention and fragmentation of their thinking. For instance, there are chances of diversion of information that is received, which turns out to be an option that is considered by numerous people (Carr, 133). Globalization has been explored through comparison of two scenarios, which include integration with technology and living a life without technology. A reflection analysis of the first scenario, where is communication and interaction occurred through technological devices depicts that globalization has been facilitated by technology and internet. In fact, this section indicates that connectivity to different parts of the world has been made possible by devices such as Smartphone, computer, television and other technological devices. In this case, people share content such as music, photos, videos, which have a significant influence on their lifestyles (Turkle, 112). The first assessment indicates that internet is the fundamental component, which facilitates communication and interaction through technological devices. On the other hand, through assessment of the first scenario, it is evident that social networking sites enable people to interact in a way that changes their perception towards things in their lives. Therefore, this change can be associated to globalization, which fosters a chain of transformation that occurs in different social institutions among societies across the world. Globalization has also been attributed to changes in ideas available in the global markets; in fact, this entails exchange of ideas, and desire to migrate in order to be more exposed. In this case, globalization has caused increasing numbers of migration given that communication and transportation has been improved by technology and other social systems at macro level. Nonetheless, globalization has also led to destabilization of people’s perception in relation to the general crisis that facilitates erosion of morality and traditional values. In fact, the internet has enabled sharing of content from different parts of the world, thereby leading to negative influences. Besides, globalization in different parts of the world has caused visible differences, which are evident on traditional value and modern forces. Further analysis of the first assessment period, it is evident that windows operating system has enabled multitasking. A long time ago, people would do one thing at a time; for instance, they would type either a document or email, but they would not undertake these tasks at same time. In this case, globalization has led to numerous distractions to people, when they are working. People are able to run applications at the same time; thus, it leads to decrease of their productivity (Carr, 134). In addition, Carr contends that internet is considered a vast reserve of information, which is accesses by different people around the world; in fact, he explains that this has led to creation of brain space to accommodate mental processing and productivity (119). A reflexive analysis of the section, which entailed a session that I did not use any technological device, there is an aspect of disconnection from other people. Turkle explains that technologies, which entail use of social media networks such as Facebook, communication through e-mail or Skype, playing games has led to control of priority and a subsequent decline in expectation among human beings (132). In this case, it is evident that people are living in globalized world communicate through technological devices. Therefore, this was the reason why I was not able to communicate with friends as I did during the first assessment period. Works Cited Carr Nicholas.
