The reasons that we reverse ethnic roles for comedic intents are to make them more palatable to a wider audience. The instance of Saturday Night Livehaving a white man play Barack Obama is because it still is widely unaccepted socially that we have a black man as president. This social inquest is merely based on the fact that racism still exists all around the country, albeit much more quietly than in recent history. We find them funny because we know that ultimately, racism is wrong, but to portray it in hilarity is more socially acceptable among the masses.
This alleviates the threat of being labeled racist or bigot, using widespread media or costuming as a cover. Comedy provides a shield for every race and culture to be presented in whatever manner the we want, while preventing racial inference. The media is in dire need of a thorough overhaul of their dialogue and broadcasts. The media needs to be what it was intended to be, which is the gatherer and portrayer of information that the masses need or want to hear. If the media were to allow non-biased and non-partisan dialogues, even those who claim not to be, it would change the roles of many people around the globe.
The dominance that the media has over the country is absurd, leading its followers based on its opinions, not merely facts. The media does not allow for the individual to come to their own conclusions concerning immigration, schools, politics or anything else. The media gives piecemeal facts, and then injects their opinion to make it appear to be the correct assumption or decision, when often it is not. The media is thoroughly abusing the power that we as a country and as a people have given it.
