Both phenomenological and ethnographic research data were collected using methods, which generate narrative accounts of personal experiences, such as interviews, and focus groups. Likewise, sampling methods, which are conducive to generating data, like non-probability sampling, are commonly utilized in grounded theory, phenomenological and ethnographic research. The sampling method used in this study used sampling methods found all in three traditions in combination to optimize methodological rigor.
Sampling needs the search of existing texts chosen in a way that will guide the researcher to explore answers to the research questions. The data analysis approach that was used in the study was phenomenological because it focused on identifying and clustering themes to elucidate patterns of individual experience with the phenomenon that was studied. Furthermore, the focus groups together with a review of literature, including scholarly article analyses of the popular texts in Saudi Arabia and Iran relations provided a basis for developing an objective understanding of the social and political background in the relations between the two nations.
In-depth individual interviews were used to explore the subjecting meaning-making the experience of individuals to fashion narrative experience. The research questions were designed in a manner that allowed an easier understanding of the Saudi-Iran relations. While understanding the Saudi-Iran relations remained the chief concern of the research, theoretical constructs derived from the data during the research process. The research questions were designed to examine historical and contemporary relations between KSA, as well as Iran to bring a clear understanding of the relations.
The research questions were fundamental in determining the geopolitical impacts of the relationship in the Middle East region. The research objectives were designed in a way that allows the study to answer the research questions of the study. Saudi Arabia and Iran were typed in the different databases and research was specified utilizing terms like Arab springs, the Islamic revolution, diplomatic relations, economic, sanctions, as well as the political system. The researcher used content analysis to acknowledge and illustrate patterns of diverse periods of Saudi-Iranian relations.
