Slip Sliding Away 1.This essay raises several issues apart from cheating alone. The major concerns that the writer raises involves ethical behavior in society. He argues that though it is a common practice among students to engage in cheating, even the lecturers sometimes find themselves outsourcing. He also raises a concern over how schools put more emphasis on grades rather than training the students to engage in ethical behaviors. He raises questions on our education systems and proposes that they need to change from what they are right now to institutions that focuses more on teaching ethical behaviors because this is what the society requires. These issues are equally important because ethics underlies any kind of good behavior that the society may require. It is therefore equally important to consider teaching the students ethical behaviors before any other thing. 3. The instructors or the administration should ensure that the students are trained on how to engage in ethical behaviors. The instructors should train the students on steps to take if they want to be good. It will require participatory learningand application of personal examples. As such, the students should be encouraged to apply real life examples or experiences as they try to learn the steps towards ethical behavior. The instructors and the administration are advised to stop assuming the problem and take action. There must be a need to inform the students of the seriousness of the problem and the schools must set guidelines on how the instructors should conduct exams. Denaturalizing Natural Disasters 1. The last two paragraphs in this essay form a successful conclusion of the writer’s argument. The writer started with introducing his argument by using relevant examples. He gave a long history of Haiti using relevant historical occurrences as the examples for his argument. Therefore, the writer has effectively used the technique of inference from relevant examples to build his argument. He introduces the nature of the problem he wants to discuss first and follows it with a long narration of these relevant examples in a clear and logical manner. The second last paragraph summarizes his argument as he brought it out in his examples. He restates his main point and argues it out in summary. This paragraph also gives an alternative solution to the Haiti, thus it becomes a very important part of the essay in that instead of just arguing against an idea, the writer also gives his point of view of what can be a better approach to Haiti’s problems. The last paragraph shows that the proposed solution to Haiti’s problems is not restricted to this particular country alone but can also be applied in any other country facing similar problems. It is very effective in that it shows how the author approached the matter from a broader perspective. It summarizes the essay in a different way by allowing the reader to look at the problem in Haiti in terms of other similar problems in other countries. In this manner, the writer demonstrates his critical evaluation of the whole issue in a broader perspective as these two paragraphs point out that well. Predators and scavengers The author sees humanity as that which has headed in a wrong direction due to its bad activities. He argues that humanity sees itself as a predator and prides itself in it while the various kinds of activities in which man has involved himself are detrimental to the environment and to the fellow human being. As predators, human beings have involved themselves in various economic activities that only work for the benefits of some section of the society while others are disadvantaged. The writer proposes that if humanity can change and embrace the kind of life that helps to conserve the environment and human dignity, then we would be able to shift from the predator world in which we are today. The writer also looks at human beings as scavengers. He argues that scavenging is a way of life that has characterized the lives of human beings though we do not really recognize it because it gives a bad notion. We pride ourselves as being predators and do not accept that we sometimes show scavenging behaviors. The writer argues that scavenging is a kind of life that others despise and consider it as that which degrades the human being. The world has forgotten that scavenging creates a friendly environment for our existence. The writer proposes that those of the lower class should not look at themselves entirely as the prey of the powerful. He argues that for us to succeed in the society, even the life of scavenging is worthy because we recycle the wastes and in turn create an ecosystem that is friendly for our existence. Is Scientific Progress Inevitable? 2(b). Scientific knowledge is so vast and complex that it requires dedication and efforts from great minds for its full implementation.Through science, human beings have found ways of addressing several challenges that face humanity. We can face life boldly because of the various scientific innovations that are at our disposal. In medicine, science can be used to predict the outbreak of certain diseases, device ways of dealing with them and save lives. Science is applied in this field in vary many ways apart from the one mentioned, thanks to the many researches that human beings have carried out. With these researches, human beings have further explored into science and improved their knowledge tremendously. Research has enabled human beings to device response measures to calamities, to improve the existing scientific theories to a new and sophisticated knowledge and to come up with ways of managing some chronic diseases. Therefore, when the writer says that life will be unpredictable without the will to protect and improve on the scientific knowledge that we have, he is right and the statement holds. It is through science that human beings have been able to alleviate hunger. Various ways of food production have emerged due to the numerous researches that have been carried out in the agricultural sector. Various ways of dealing with war and crimes have been developed through scientific research. All these have happened because of man’s endeavor to research more and increase knowledge. If man had ignored science, then life could be unbearable and unpredictable such that we would not be able to deal with diseases, war and hunger. Burning Mistry 3. The comparison that Manguel uses is in the first paragraph where he gives a historical account of book burning. He later mentions it in the last paragraph where he summarizes his argument. The writer has used this passage as an example to his main argument. This is a historical fact, hence proves valid. Therefore, Manguel supports his arguments by examples from real life situations so tomake his peace of writing more persuasive. The example is therefore very effective since it helps the writer to draw valid conclusions. Manguel tries to establish his credibility in different ways. Firstly, the way the writer gives a vivid description of the matter shows that he comprehends the topic. He shows this by stating historical facts. He also hints to the audience that he reads a lot and this makes the audience believe in this piece of writing since it shows that he did research before he wrote it. Secondly, this writer shows authority by how he presents his argument. The essay sounds authoritative since the writer is confident about the topic. He shows his authority by presenting his ideas in a logical, well-argued manner. It is very essential to establish credibility because your target audience must be well convinced that what is presented to them is from a reliable source and authentic. One must convince their audience that he/she has a good knowledge of the topic. this is fundamentalin any public presentation or writing since it makes the audience become more interested in the topic, thus they become more attentive to listen or develop the desire to read a piece of writing. Animal Issues Contributions of the Springer to the Essay The Springer elaborates the significance of human connections with other animals and factors to introduce the bondage that exists between man and nature. It illuminates the instinctive dominance that man has over the wild and develops the basis for wooing the minds of the readers into conceptions that man can manipulate nature, or relate to it. The springer goes ahead to point out the interaction of man with the wild as that which is faced with challenges. In fact, the Springer prepares the reader for an encounter with the complexities that muddle the human wild relations. It is hence, the essay's inception, termed for the simple as the introduction. Humans' Role in the Luna's Demise Whales have gotten credited to conceptualize relationships mentally, or even create one. Of the wild mammals, it is one of the few species that has the ability and capacity to reserve its wild nature, but more or less exhibit a friendly bearing. This illustrates that it understandsthe concepts surrounding mutual relationships. It is a magnificent creation that changes not, butremains just a creature. That creates the implication that it does have the same advanced mental configuration that humans have and justifies the intuition that any unnatural whale death is human triggered. Luna became a victim of circumstances when several attempts and campaigns by activists and fisheries to get it transported back to its pod were thwarted by locals. Their religious conceptions thatthis creature could be seen as a one Mr. Ambrose Maquinna, though baseless and lacking any semblance of a possibility, inspired their continued interaction with the whale. Case for which, the whale's confidence catapulted, and it expressed an increased desire to frequent the water surfaces and create spur more interaction. The result was a grisly contact with a propeller that ended Luna's life. It is hence conceivable that every event that contributed in the build up to Luna's sudden demise got ground laid by humans, especially the locals. The Birth of Power Dressing Rublack's Reference to Men How else would it be significant to describe the founded history of fashion and clothing design but to base and make all reference to the occurrences of the 15th century? It is at that time that the term fashionable rocked populations and set individuals at the highest of helms, points at which they got respected, revered and honored. Of noteworthy concern is the way the masculine gender dominated virtually every aspect of life. Men created and determined what got termed desirable as women of that time had to be housewives, but even spinsters had no duties that concerned the society. Even feminine fashion was masculine, as it is the men who rated the attractiveness that fashion bore. It is hence of no surprise that Rublack's essay makes so much reference to men. The biggest contribution to that factor is her desire to examine all the contributing developments that has influenced fashion and paved the way for the modernity of the present. Referring to women would be inadequate as they plaid the peripheral duties in clothing designs, they were but the wearers and exhibitors of what got desired. Having recognized that aspect, Rublack's essay is precise and visionary, and derives basis from facts, as they should be. Referring to men even magnifies the topic and elaborates that fashion affects both genders alike. Health Ethics and Environment The authors of this study did not include a hypothesis at the end of the introduction because the study was conducted in such a way that it was not trying to find a solution to a problem. The main goal of this study was to receive responses or different opinions as per the question. Therefore, the authors excluded the hypothesis because the research was meant to study the various opinions that people have concerning abstinence from animal products. The fact that opinions differ from individuals and religious groups gives one freedom to exclude a hypothesis and consider giving room for the varied opinions that people have. It is from these different opinions that one makes conclusions. A hypothesis could have given restrictions on how to come up with conclusions about the study. This method of interviews was chosen because it allows researchers to interview a large number of people from different cultures and geographical locations (Decision Analyst, 1997). To was a very easy and economical way because no travelling coasts were involved in trying to meet the respondents who came from far countries and from different cultures. The method was also chosen because the online platform that was used is a site that has a large traffic. The challenges of this method mainly involve issues of validity. The respondents can give deceptive responses since they are not in the presence of the interviewer. Another limitation is unwillingness of the targeted respondents to participate in this method of research. Participants may find such a process to be tedious and requiring special skills for typing. Moreover, internet samples do underrepresent minority groups. Reference Analyst, D. (1997). Online Ethnographic research.
