The Human Right to Adequate Food Ending Hunger Worldwide In his book “Ending Hunger World” George Kent , tends to challenge the naïve notion in which everyone wants to put an end to hunger. In this case, Kent states that hunger ensures that consumers enjoy cheap goods while employers make good profits. Kent reflects on the fact that most hungry people tend to be far away whereas individuals who are well off tend to have little interest in doing away with hunger issues. Actions to end hunger have never matched its talk since individuals who have the ability to end the issue are not the ones going through the problem. In this case, the author states that in as much as the powerful individuals care about hunger issues, it is not enough to address the issue.1 On the other hand, Kent also address how hunger analysts view agricultural yields in line with hunger issues facing the world and in this case, Kent states that hunger analysts must typically focus on various interventions and agricultural yields with supplements and capsules. He goes further to illustrate how hunger analysts rarely acknowledge how anger is deeply affecting the society and the fact that it remains a social issue across the globe.2 Generally, the central concept driving Kent’s ideas to write the book the fact that there are several strong communities, which never go hungry no, matter their situation. In this case, Kent states that the strong communities tend to have high standards on how they view each other in the community and their well-being. In doing this, Kent is of the idea that people should always be ready to help each other in hard situations. The author further states that it is upon human desires to go hungry and that there is no food shortage across the globe instead, the shortage only comes in terms of opportunities that human beings lack. In this case, Kent suggests feels that in most cases, people fail to care about fellow human beings and in the end lead to hunger issues across the world.3 Generally, the book stresses on the need to strengthen communities through building care as a way of ending hunger. Chapter 7 Nutritional Safety Nets Summary In chapter seven of the book, George Kent focuses on various topical issues in relation to hunger management programs and issues. In this chapter, Kent generally defines nutritional safety nets and goes further to explain how the guaranteed safety nets work in poverty eradication across the globe. Additionally, Kent talks about the global nutritional safety nets issues and the role of the international law when it comes to hunger management. Lastly, Kent focuses on some of the key features of the net programs. In simple words, Kent simply describes some of the nutritional safety nets, which would help in protecting people against extreme hunger and poverty. In this case, Kent states that nutritional safety nets and described by the World Bank is simply the formal and the informal mechanisms, which protect individuals against poverty outcomes. The chapter further recommends for the establishment of long-term plans, which would help in dealing with chronic hunger. However, Kent also sees the need for dealing with some of the current problems facing the globe in terms of poverty eradication.4 The chapter also points out the Twin Track approach used by the United Nations on the recognition that as the world pursues the long-term strategies when it comes to a sustainable growth, then the world needs to establish an immediate hunger relief management and interventions.5 This chapter generally advocates for some of the long term protection programs which must either be improved or created to help individuals who are in need. In this chapter, Kent demonstrates some of the different approaches, which at one time have been put into use in order to achieve quick nutrition status improvement especially to the vulnerable people across the globe. In this chapter, Kent describes the safety net approach as a symptomatic relief form or structure, which helps in addressing hunger issues. However, Kent states that the approach fails to replace some of the social structures, which need to be replaced. The other form of dealing with hunger issue in which Kent states in this chapter is the use of nutrition assistance programs in which can temporarily be of great to individuals facing hunger issues. Chapter 8 Household Food Production In chapter eight of the book, Kent generally focuses on the need to establish household food production. However, Kent goes further to call on systematic social approaches, which would help households in the production of food. In doing this, Kent generally focuses on some of the methods of household’s production of food, primary production aspect, networking issues, some of the cautions in the establishment of this aspect, government role in this particular aspect, the community-based food production and government’s role in this concept. Lastly, the chapter focuses on some of the political significance of this aspect. The chapter goes further to address the importance of strengthening the aspect of household food in which would help in yielding substantial benefits in terms of nutrition and the development of stronger communities.6 As one of the common household food production aspects, Kent advocates for gardening where he states that this farming strategy should be used for food produced primarily for direct consumption and not for sales.7 Generally, Kent shares information, enthusiasm and ideas regarding household food production throughout chapter eight. Kent also commends the Global center, which he sees it as an effective channel in helping people across the globe in this aspect. Alternatively, Kent uses chapter eight to describe some of the common models that would help in funding some of the projects mentioned by Kent in helping curb hunger across the globe. In this case, Kent advocates for the social business model, which he sees it as the best and the most appealing especially to low income earners while doing some of these projects. The chapter also advocates for the sponsorship model to provide operational costs continuously as the projects goes on. Lastly, Kent stresses on the importance of engaging in long term projects and planning needs. Views From the chapter, it is quite evident that Kent is keen to address every issue affecting human beings with respect to hunger management across the world. Generally, Kent touches on nearly all issues and programs that if enacted, would be of great importance to the human society. However, Kent fails to address the issues from the local level. The problem with hunger usually starts on the local level and not the national levels. This means that whatever human beings do within their families and societies remains important. Before addressing the national issues on hunger, people should be educated on the needs to prevent hunger. Alternatively, families must also know the need of hard work and being innovative in trying to eradicate poverty within our midst. On the other hand, the government should at least come up with different laws not only the international laws to protect the human race against poverty. Alternatively, societies must always formulate their own way of addressing their hunger issues instead of sitting back, waiting for the government to come in their aid. As Kent puts it, the human race needs a clear vision, less politics and hard work to streamline them through poverty eradication.
