Personal and Professional Development Introduction This report possesses the details through which the effective self managed learning leads to the development and enhancement of approaches towards self managed learning. Self managed learning may encourage knowledge gaining in both professional and personal context and may benefit to the self and organization. This will also contain information regarding my own professional and personal skills and what kind of requirements is needed to meet the professional standards while also taking into consideration, my personal development opportunities regarding future needs and demands. Introduction Self managed learning refers to such a kind of learning in which learners use different ways to enhance and improve their learning skills which can occur in their society or at their work place. Self managed learning also focuses on the evaluation of purpose of learning and setting of goals which leads to the achievement of these goals. Learning is such a process which starts from birth and ends at death. People learn through interaction, they learn different cultures, behavior of people, personalities and perceptions etc. Learning, not always takes place in a controlled environment of a class rather it also takes place in uncontrolled environment e.g through friends and newspapers etc. Self managed learning makes it possible for the people to create different suitable strategies of learning. Sometimes they makeup short term strategies while some times they end up completing a project. If people acquire these strategies as long term then this is going to benefit them as they will be able to use this knowledge in professional and personal life. Different approaches are used to self managed learning, some are as follows; 1.1. Approaches to Self Managed Learning Research is one of the most effective ways to enhance learning. People can learn things better while doing research which can be issued by the college or university or even at their place of work. Individuals learn different strategies when they are involved in a research process and it gives exposure to a bulk of information regarding the research and its topic. Seminars and Conferences Seminars and conferences also add to the learning of the individuals. These are a great source of learning and lead to the improvement of implications of strategies in future. Seminars and Conferences make it possible to transfer the knowledge and expertise to other people which may add something to their knowledge. They enhance the confidence level, public speaking and presentational skills. Social Networks Different social networks include; Facebook, twitter, Google Plus etc. More than two hours are spend by people on an average, using these websites for friends’ chatting, new things’ learning, getting to know new people and their cultures, etc. People may also get inspiration from the successful owners of these sites e.g Mark Zuckerburg and take them as role models so that they may be able to follow their footsteps, in which such successful people created their successful careers. Internet Individuals can also learn with the help of Internet. They can read different articles and blogs written by different authors which may increase their knowledge in risk management, stress management, strategic management etc. Individuals can use such information in their professional lives. Different sites on Internet are meant to help people in learning different techniques and strategies. Such sites guide and help people in a more positive and result oriented way. With the help of self management learning, I myself have enjoyed lifelong lessons both in my individual life and in my professional building up. 1.2: Ways in Which Lifelong Learning In Personal And Professional Contexts Could Be Encouraged Lifelong learning refers to personal learning which ends with the death of a person. Such a kind of personal learning also adds up to the professional growth of an individual. Lifelong learning leads to personal assessment which in turn makes it possible for a person to evaluate his/her strengths, weaknesses, opportunities etc (SWOT Analysis). My strengths include; learning efficiency, passionate about learning, ambitious, cooperative etc and one of my weaknesses is that I become stressed very quickly and then I try to cope with it by taking some nap, getting involved in some workouts that are helpful in releasing stress. SWOT Analysis After the evaluation of my SWOT Analysis, I will try to use other tools and techniques which include continuing professional development (CPD) and self reflective learning so that I may be able to enhance my professional learning. Self reflecting learning refers to the review of your opinions, judgments and actions which you are going to take in a particular way. This will lead to the betterment in my professional development in practical issues. Self Reflective Learning It refers to different tactics and strategies at work place which may develop my personal skills so that I may be able to complete responsibilities being assigned to me. CPD tends to build up connection between the development of my personal learning and professional learning which brings efficiency in my developing my skills. 1.3: Benefits of Self-Managed Learning to Individual and Organization: In self managed learning, significant steps are taken by people that help them in organizing their education. The imperative and encouraging effects of this type of learning for organizations and individuals bears a long list. Those, who are Graduates or those near to graduation like me, will be applying their professional knowledge and skills in their professional careers which will lead to the achievement of positive results. Such a kind of knowledge which will be acquired or learned in the college or university will be applied in the organization where I will be having my employment. Collaboration Skills Persons will be working very well in teams as they have already worked in groups for assignments and projects in their academic session in universities and colleges. This skill will lead them to become a much more professional team worker in their organization. Presentation Skills Individuals learn and enhance their presentation skills. They gain self confidence and speak in an impressive way. Their university life has already made him used to such presentation of projects etc on slides with the help of projector. This makes them enable to present their agenda in a well organized and impressive way in front of their company or organization. Communication Skills Self learning makes it possible for individuals to develop effective communication and better writing skills which are basic objectives of organizations. Self management learning makes individuals to become independent regarding creating different learning skills for them. They become able to communicate effectively which leads to the successful share of knowledge on their part. Some people become class representative because of their leadership qualities. These leadership qualities will help them in becoming great leaders of their teams at work place. Benefits of Self Managed Learning To the Organization Effective Decision making: This type of learning improves the decision making skills of the individuals. They become effective decision maker which help them in both personal and professional lives. If an individual will stay ethical and will possess moral judgment through personal experience then this will benefit the organization. Problem Solving Problem solving is such a kind of skill which may be enhanced with the help of self management learning. This skill will help the individual in coping with the personal as well as professional daily basis issue. Individual may be able to resolve problems or get rid of hurdles on his/her way with the help of problem solving skill. Every organization or company prefer such people who show flexibility in their working timings and their personal commitments doesn’t become a hindrance in their professional working. This skill can only be acquired with the help of self learning by giving emphasis to the organization objectives. Benefits of Self Managed Learning To the Individual: Organizations always want to assure that their aims and goals are fully achieved and met. These objectives follow principle of being SMART (S-specific, M-measurable, A-achievable, R-realistic and T-time bound). The qualities and expertise of the employees are evaluated and analyzed in such a way which may confirm the success of the organization’s plans and objectives. They need such a staff which possess; stress management skills, leadership skills, time management skills, etc. Writing skills, communication skills, dedication towards work etc can also be connected with the organization’s objectives. 2.1. Current Skills and Competencies against Professional Standards and Organizational Objectives: Organizational Objectives (Organization chosen is National Health Service NHS): i. Providing people with services that possess inclusive diversity ii. Reshaping services such as the requirements and necessities of every diseased, their caregivers and their families are fulfilled. iii. Taking action to meet the requirements of whole population that exist in specific community. iv. Minimizing errors and improving the service’s quality by making use of different plans and tactics of dealing with health related problems v. Giving importance and value to the workers of organization. vi. Keeping share of the NHS patients from the healthcare funds and resources. What I feel about myself is that I am good when it comes to demonstrate listening skills, writing skills and skills of exploring and researching. I am friendly and cooperative when it comes to team work. I could be a blessing for the organization due to the strength of my individual talents. These expertises could be used while collaborating in an organization as an exchange of innovative conceptions can be auxiliary in bringing organizational reforms and paving ways for its development. I have got a caring posture while working with proficiencies for other people as organizations such as NHS that need a person who possess caring and kind attitude towards the patients , I am also working on mounting my dealing proficiency that could be applied resourcefully at NHS as my sole intention is to work with that organization who aim at providing high-quality wellbeing to community without any discrimination from all the domains covering finance, health sector, human resources and even at the level of planning. 2.2.
