The consumption of alcohol in the current society has been increasing each passing day with the majority of the youths being the victims of excessive consumption. Alcoholic drinks are consumed throughout the whole globe; however, the purposes of consumption of alcohol differ from one group to another or from person to person.

Some people consume alcohol as a means to unite and socialize while others may do it as a means to depict leisure (www.livestrong.com n.d).  While people consume alcohol for various purposes, a major controversy arises from the fact that its consumption may cause risks and associated benefits that may affect myriad facets of life for instance: Relationships, health, job opportunities as well as behavior. However, these benefits require that a person consume an average amount of alcohol, which is the prevention of cardiovascular diseases through increased lipoprotein density in the bloodstream hence reducing the occurrences of clots along with the circulatory system (www.livestrong.com n.d). Some people may also consume alcohol as a form of leisure; usually, this is associated with prestige and socialization facets.

During special occasions, parties involved may decide to consume alcohol as a means to gain happiness or show merry, however, during such occasions, it is extremely difficult to control the amount of alcohol consumed (www.livestrong.com n.d). Disadvantages of consuming AlcoholThere are various negative effects that emanate from the behavior of consuming alcohol’ the effects may affect varying facets of life such as; health (Mental, physical, emotional, attitudes, behavior et cetera), relationships, job or employment, and other human activities.

These negative effects of alcohol usually arise from excessive alcohol consumption and they include: One of the most apparent negative effects of alcohol is the associated psychological effects that occur from excess consumption. The consumption of alcohol has a direct negative effect which may cause loss of memory hence leading to misconduct. Excessive alcohol consumption may also lead to excessive residual effects that may cause harmful conditions such as headache, vomiting as well as fatigue, and dehydration (Rotgers & Davis 2006).

Moreover, overconsumption of alcoholic products has led to a number of societal challenges that majorly arise from diminished capacity of mental reasoning, they include the Breakage of many marriages due to associated conflicts that may arise after consumption, road accidents arising from drinking while driving, and rape together with sexual abuse. In some cases, consumption of alcohol while under medication may interfere with the proper functioning of drugs hence escalating a patient's suffering. Other associated diseases that may occur due to excessive consumption of alcohol are liver cirrhosis, mouth cancer, reduced sexual activity, loss of vision et cetera. Expectant mothers under the influence of alcohol may also face associated health problems like; spontaneous abortion, giving malformed births as well as challenges during birth (Rotgers & Davis 2006).

Apart from breaking relationships, excessive consumption of alcohol may lead to increased cases of school dropouts especially when a person is addicted therefore reducing the chances of an individual’s success. Poor performance at school is also another challenge faced by alcohol addicts in contemporary society.ConclusionConsumption of alcohol has a few benefits to the current generation among consumers and producers; however, excessive consumption has numerous disadvantages. It should be noted that these advantages not only affect the consumers but also the society as a whole and therefore it is the responsibility of any society member to take initiatives that will ensure that negative effects ascribed to alcohol consumption are reduced or eliminated for a prosperous society.
