I am liable to be sensitive to the emotional climate displayed by the people around me like my peers, family, friends and also key clients. I am also well conscious of the effect my behavior has on others. In spite of that, while I may be adept at collaborating with others and their needs, but I must remember also the needs required by myself (Institute for Health and Human Potential, 2010). Emotional IQ Test Result The Score acquired is 101, which is above the average range. I am able to deal and recognize with my own emotions and those of others in a reasonably effective manner. Ability to relate to others, expressing needs, and maintaining satisfactory levels of emotional health are not taking full advantage of your potential. By practicing and learning new skills and also by using more useful ways of dealing with people, I could increase my EIQ. The benefits will be numerous, including stronger relationships, a more successful career and better emotional health (Discovery Health, 2010). Experience in Taking the Test The questions that were presented were mostly related to emotions in the work place and how I deal with the jobs and responsibility given to me and reaction towards it. It was also related towards the attitude of the working people around me. It was a good experience in giving the test and knowing my own competency and chance of growth. Emotional Intelligence Every person is different with their own unique features and emotions that one individual possess. The organization is a mixture of different people holding different emotions, each one different from other. Mostly the IQ and other forms of test are conducted in various organizations for determining the intelligence level of an individual. But the recent trend that has been found out is the EQ (Emotional Intelligence) test that is conducted for checking the intelligence level with the emotion as the variable (The Ohio State University, 2001). Emotional intelligence includes five types of skills. Self- awareness, the ability to recognize and be aware of their feelings. Managing emotions, displaying the emotions in a socially appropriate ways. Motivation in aid to emotions in reaching the goals. Empathy, ability to recognize how a person feels. Social skills, deals with others in a social situation (The Ohio State University, 2001). There are different theories and models that have been developed like Goleman interpretation, work of Mayer, Salovey and David Caruso and many more for EQ. There are many leadership theories and motivational concepts that include the emotion as a factor for the success. The example for such is to find out an individual who is in a pressure situation at a work place, and how does the individuals feel in that situation and react to the surrounding people. The analysis will provide the details of the emotional intelligence that the individual have at a level in handling the situation and surrounding with an ability to react and respondent in such a situation. There are people who cannot handle the situation just because of the emotional barrier which affects the performance. Importance of emotional intelligence Emotional intelligence is the key factor for personal, career and academic excellence. The emotional intelligence is important in work places more because of social competencies. Social competencies are the competency that determines how an individual handles the relationships within the organizational structure with all the other members of the organization. The relationship status defines the working flexibility of an individual with the others. It becomes highly important when tasks are to be performed by a team not individually. The performance of the team gets affected due to the contents of emotions that the team members have which is also reflected in the result (CiteHR, n.d.). Intuition and Empathy are the awareness of an individual of others’ requirements, feelings, and concern. Understanding others perspective and feelings and showing an active concern in them will build a better relation and bonding in the organizational culture (CiteHR, n.d.). The emotional intelligence helps in recognizing and foresees need of a consumer which is important to the organization. Customer satisfaction will be generated only if one can properly access the needs of a consumer (CiteHR, n.d.). It provides the ability to sense other requirements in developments and needs and try to acquire their strengths for own development. The right kind of emotional intelligence will give an opportunity to enhance self development from learning the others strength (CiteHR, n.d.). Due to the diversified people existing in the work place the emotional intelligence provides an opportunity in learning and growing along with finding more opportunity to enhance an individual’s quality (CiteHR, n.d.). Enhance Emotional Intelligence The enhancement of emotional intelligence skill helps the organization in value addition by means of developing their leadership competencies. The ways to enhance the emotional intelligence are respect, denial and ear of your heart. Respect: One should need to implement respect for other people’s emotions. There are professional problems and certain personal problems which may come up with a profession in the work place. Person working along with that person needs to regard the other person’s emotion. One cannot just over look what is happening in the surrounding or in the work place. They need to understand and respect other people’s emotions for their own enhancement (Ezine Articles, 2010). Denial: An individual when not satisfied, feel annoyed, and gloomy. They should not keep those feelings away and try to convince self that they are happy; instead they should accept the fact and acknowledge the emotions, even the negative ones. This will help the person to be mature and enhance their emotional intelligence (Ezine Articles, 2010). Ear of your heart: It is to show respect and compassion to what others are telling you. When someone is sharing something about themselves, one should not interrupt in between and listen to them to know there felling and emotions. It helps in learning more quickly than in understanding what is going on (Ezine Articles, 2010). It becomes easy to enhance the emotional intelligence when an individual applies the steps stated above in their life, which might be difficult at the beginning but it is a long and ongoing process which will benefit the individual in the long run (Ezine Articles, 2010).
