Hunting - My Way of Life Introduction Hunting is one of the oldest hobbies of human being. Many people are still engaged in hunting of wild animals both for enjoyment and for food. Hunting of wild animals or killing of innocent animals has created many controversies in the world. Animal lovers have strongly opposed the killing of animals either for enjoyment or for food. In their opinion, the lives of animals are precious as that of the human being. On the other hand, supporters of animal hunting believe that God has created this world only for the human being and all the other resources including the animals are the property of the human being. Moreover they strongly believe that if the number of animals exceeds the limits, it will create immense problems for the human. In this paper I argue in favour of animal hunting for limiting the number of animals and also for the food purpose. Arguments in favour of animal hunting “Hunting prevents wildlife populations from getting out of control that will eventually harm the wildlife, their environment, and possibly humans” (Pros and cons of hunting...?). I believe that hunting is a humane way of keeping the animal populations under control. Nature has an equilibrium in which it has created means for limiting the living things on earth. Even human being has their life cut out after certain period. Natural calamities and manmade disasters are other means of limiting the number of human being on earth. If eternity is not guaranteed even for the human life, there is no point in arguing for the life of animals. God has created human life as the most important thing in the world. As Bible says, God has given the authority of all the resources on earth to the human being. “The die-offs caused by over population create far more suffering in the animal world than does quick death resulting from fair chase hunting” (Ashe). It is a fact that animals are not getting any treatments like the human beings. In other words, the natural end of animal life would be more pathetic because of age related problems as there are no means for the animals to overcome such pathetic ways of their death. On the other hand, hunting will take the life of the animals quickly and they suffer only a momentary pain. Ashe (2006) has argued that the hunters are contributing to the welfare of the animals through the taxes paid by them while purchasing the firearms, ammo and all accessories attached to hunting whereas the animal lovers are contributing nothing to the animal life (Ashe). Most of the animal lovers argue against the massacres against the animal life, but at a time when somebody asks for some contributions for the welfare of animal life they will close their hands. In short, their love for animals remains only on certain vocal exercises and paper works only. “Hunters and other sportsmen provide millions of dollars every year to improve wildlife and the environment” (Pros and cons of hunting...?) Hunting helps maintaining certain species of wildlife and their environment (Pros and cons of hunting...?). In order to keep the ecosystem balanced, all animals need to be survived. It is quite possible that some rare species of animals might be the victims of lions, tigers or cheetahs. Killing of these animals would reduce the risk associated with the life of the rare species animals. Human kills only the animals suitable for the food purposes whereas lions, tigers or cheetahs like cruel animals kill other animals even for their enjoyment. Animals are sources of diseases. Many people believe that the HIV/AIDS like diseases has originated from animals. It is easy for the viruses to spread rapidly through the bodies of the animals as animals don’t have any ability to prevent the viruses from spreading. Hunting brings in revenue for the country and its people; it creates jobs for local people (Pros and cons of hunting animals). Some of the village people use hunting as the mean for their livelihood. They may not be aware of any other jobs and they may have lack of other resources for finding their livelihood. Such people may select hunting as their profession and denying the opportunities of hunting to them may result in these people struggle to survive. For tribal people mostly look for the resources from the forest for livelihood. They use animal meat for their food and the hides of animals as their cloths. Prohibition of hunting may prevent such people from finding cloths and foods necessary for their survival. Arguments against animal hunting Many animal lovers accuse animal killing as a brutal act. But experienced hunters know how to make a clean kill and they use only a single bullet to kill the animals. Another argument against animal hunting is about the brutality of taking life of animals. But as mentioned earlier, animals are not capable of treating themselves and God has not given such wisdom to the animals. For example, an old deer or rabbit would definitely easy for other animals to catch. Such animals will use their teeth and nails to tear off their prey which would be more painful than killing of them using a bullet. Some people argue against animal hunting using moral and ethical principles. They believe that God has created all the living things on earth and only God has the authority to take the life of living things. At the same time, we must remember that most of the wild animals are non-vegetarians and God created them like that only. In other words, God has allowed the living things to use other living things as their food and the is no point in denying such facility to the human being. Conclusions Animal hunting is an ethical act since God has allowed wild animals to catch their prey for food. Animal hunting is necessary for preventing the over population of animals, preventing diseases, and for obtaining revenues. Killing of animals using a bullet is more comfortable for them than dying in a natural way as no medications or treatment facilities are available to them naturally relieve the pain. Works Cited 1.
