Ethical leadership qualities Ethical Leadership Quality Question Select on a leader that encompasses the qualities of an ethical leader The value of the ethical leadership is very vital in today’s organizations, public institution, private sectors, and the NGOs. Ethical leadership is the most important issue in organizational performance globally. Leaders in charge of vital positions in organizations have ethical qualities, which enable them to avoid the perils associated with unethical issues within the organization. For this matter, I would select my class teacher as a leader I admire to possess the qualities for good ethical leadership. How I determined that the class teacher was an ethical leader My determination of my teacher as a leader that conforms to and maintains ethical order is based on certain qualities that my teacher possesses. The qualities include transparency, honesty, and trustworthiness. These traits make the teacher and student’s relationship even stronger. The teacher’s reliability and dependability further makes him an all-round leader. The reality that the teacher can judge when wrong stays true to what he utters, is never a disappointment, and tries to understand other people make the teachers an exceptional leader (Hershey 2015). The normative leadership concept that leaders with ethics most commonly identify with Normative leadership theories control the act of leaders by building the moral principles or norms unlike the general ethical perspective addressing the leader’s behavior. Type of normative leadership theory they most commonly identify with is the transformation leadership called the transactional compared to a more form of leadership called transforming. The transactional lower level needs followers to focus on terminal values like liberty, equality, and justice. The Transformational leaders become more of role models to their followers who admire, respect, and trust them. The inspirational motivation-transforming leader uplifts the team morale by encouraging followers stimulating innovation and creativity. The transformational leaders are a bit more successful than the transactional leaders making other companies prosper extremely. These are the most common normative leadership theories that leaders who are keen on ethical issues live by. How do the ethical leaders interact with others demonstrating ethical leadership qualities Since ethical leadership is based on understanding and positive relations, it is important to that it is included in most organizations thus improving the quality of performance in such organization and the quality of leadership in the organization is also improved. Leaders need to conform to ethical leadership attributes for them to establish to perfect relationships characterized by mutual respect and trust. The ethical leader should develop the type of relationship that arises from basic and vital principles like trustworthiness, fairness, integrity, respect, honesty, equality, justice, and being compassionate. Ethical leaders apply these basic aspects in order to carry out ethical leadership to the public and consequently make the productivity and sustainability of the institutions in question. When the establishment of positive relationship happens, provision of the benefits accrued reflects at three stages in the organization’s life. The prosperity of the organization seen in all its dealings because of extensive understanding made possible by effective communication among the professionals existing in the organization. Ethical leadership in all levels of organizations betters the relationship and the empowerment of the human enterprise. Honesty, trust, and integrity are vital principles that all leaders must advocate. Absence of such fundamentals would make leadership less effective. In what ways do ethical leaders cast light not shadow? An ethical leader must display the ethical behavior of acting on what is right at all times to avoid victimization and mistrust by the followers. Ethics depend on a number of social norms and logistics, evident physical principles and having social and cultural attributes. Ethical leaders should both be visible and invisible. This is because they lead and solve matters in a well-formulated manner by applying appropriate ethical techniques. The leaders should have the ability to encourage and give guidance to the people, accept responsibility related to leadership, and be able to account for the activities of the organization’s ethical leadership. Ethical leaders can channel an organization into collaboration by addressing matters ethically. In addition, the leader is able to establish a good working environment within an organization lending a listening ear to issues of concern and opinions of every worker. Ethical leadership depicts ethical behavior in the organizations and the community generally and the leaders must behave ethically because the juniors look up to them. What I have learnt about myself by interacting with ethical leaders The interaction with the ethical leaders has led to my adoption and inculcation of a number of ethical traits and morals in society. I have developed good leadership skills by emulating the impeccable traits possessed by leaders in the society. They have showed me, the spirit of hard work and self-confidence to pursue targeted goals and ambitions for the betterment of my future. Ethical leadership is the right way to go because every individual has a responsibility to themselves, to organizations, and to the community as a whole to inculcate ethical parameters for the realization of a better world. Interaction with ethical leaders equips an individual with self -respect because of the application of ethics in decision making, actions taken, and interactions made (Albert et al 2012). Question 4 Comparing and contrasting utilitarianism and communitarians Definition of the perspectives addressed Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is an ethical trait in which joy and satisfaction of the greatest number of individuals is given prior consideration in society. In accordance with the utilitarian principles, a deed is morally right if its impacts benefits all and does not stir up pain. Since the link that exists between actions and their desirable or undesirable outcomes depends on the specific situations, no moral principle is regarded as a necessity for utilitarianism. Communitarians Communitarianism refers to the core method of trying to reduce focus on individual rights and divert the focus to the responsibilities and privileges relating to the community as a whole. Communitarianism describes the impact of society on individuals struggling to acquire the values instilled in history and tradition. The ideology held by communitarian subsequently leads into the ethical talk in the society. Similarities Communitarians do what is good for the interests of the community as a whole; they work towards the achieving of harmony, stability, and security that are all beneficial to the community. Utilitarians work for the good of the majority and not specific individuals. Communitarianism also excludes actions that only intend to please a limited number of individuals. The two aspects establish some form of similarity between the concept of Unitarianism and communitarianism. They both base on social factors and traits, which are very influential in the daily life of individuals in which can be advantageous or disadvantageous. Discuss differences The utilitarian theory takes its focus on the greatest good for highest number of individuals, in this way it is selective and discriminative because it leaves minority out. Utilitarians are not concerned with the people whose number is not substantial and do not benefit them in any given way. On the other hand, communitarians base their focus on the community as a whole entity (Krzeminska et al 2014). Communitarians therefore tend to apply the concept of cosmopolitan ship in which everyone in the society is equally treated. Utilitarian journalists find it difficult to determine if the majority are satisfied with specific decisions. Journalism that owes its establishment to utilitarianism loses liberty to make independent reports because the work of journalists must be in accordance to the benefit for all principle. Example where the perspective addressed are appropriately applied Utilitarianism consists of two elements that are happiness and consequentialism. Happiness in this case is the greatest joy every normal individual as it revolves around everything that can spark excitation for the general majority. Utilitarianism outlines the importance of freedom and liberty. Communitarians establish the ideology necessary for the application of the concept of morality in the economy because the economy is a vital constituent of the business world. Communitarianism boosts the understanding of economic trends. This is because it establishes and explains the link between business and morality. The other relevant information to the study topic Political communitarians majorly raised in 1990s. Political utilitarianism entails a number of components.
