The Republican Party’s platform acknowledges that the presence of unidentified persons in America poses serious risks to the sovereignty and safety of the country. Republicans oppose any forms of amnesty, as they believe this would encourage lawbreaking. On the other hand, the Democratic Party platform highlights the need for comprehensive immigration reforms that would get undocumented immigrants in line with American citizenship.

As the article reflects, the effects of the party platform differences on immigration reforms seem to have spilled over to another public policy issue. The legislation, passed last month by the House, funds the Homeland Security Agency through the remainder of the budget year while withdrawing President Barack Obama's administrative policies that protect millions of immigrants living in the country illegally from deportation.
