Most managers use the manual as a layout of historical perspective or as a guide to the current societal emergencies. The author recalls the gravity and obligations of an appointed NEMA director. The directors’ focus is always to promote sound policies that enhance the security of the country. The guide aims at sharing the collective experience of those who have served NEMA.

The reading introduces the challenges that follow appointment as an NEMA director or employee.Q 2The concepts included preparedness, mitigation factors, managing the organization, response, and recovery. Q 3The concept selected is preparedness. Preparedness relates to those activities; actions or strategies layout by emergency leaders in preparation for unforeseen disasters and emergencies. A good example of preparedness is training of emergency management personnel. Training prepares them with abilities, skills, and knowledge needed to handle future emergencies.
