Lesson Plan: CHRISTMAS al Affiliation Introduction Religion is a wide area to teach, and such a lesson is a welcomed opportunity to shed light into a particular religion tradition among the class. To ensure that I have full attention of the class, I will make the lesson plan as interesting and interactive as possible. I will begin by asking the learners to describe the term religion. The responses of the students I will record them on the chart or make them share their thoughts in the class verbally. Additionally, the students can record their views in their personal journals. Then the ideas are compared to sociologist definition. For example, Ferguson and Parker defined religion as a united system of practices and beliefs to sacred (Ferguson and Parker, 2000). Therefore, forbidden things and set apart are believed to unite the people into a single moral community. The learners may tend to give definitions according to their personal beliefs. Through discussion, the class can have an inclusive definition that covers polytheistic, monotheistic and nontheistic religions. Secondly, I will outline the names of the nine religions in the world. They include Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Shintoism, Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism and Baha’i. I will ask the students if the names are familiar and use their journals or charts to show what they know concerning the various religious traditions. Then administer questions to assess prior knowledge. For example, a question that involves placing the nine religions in order of the adherents number worldwide. Lastly, I will introduce the main topic, which is Christianity Chrismas celebration, and ask the students to describe it. Students have a good definition about Christmas celebration using their existing knowledge on their journals. For example, Christianity is a religion whose practices and beliefs base on Jesus of Nazareth teachings. The main question is why is Christmas so important to Christianity? Objectives. The first objective is to describe Christian’s thoughts about God and evaluate why they harbor the beliefs. Upon that, students must know the influence of Christians in believing God. Each student should also have at least a single reason for Christian’s belief in God and one belief of Christians towards God. The students can also have multiple reasons and beliefs of Christians about God. Secondly is to know the main words that relate to the Christians Christmas thoughts and beliefs about God. The students must know a single or multiple qualities of Christian belief in Christmas and the relation to God. They should also describe the Christians believes about God using the main terminologies. Thirdly, is to develop a belief role-play about Christmas and be aware arguments that are against or for the existence of the birth of Jesus Christ. Upon that, the learners must list and explain at least three purposes of Christmas holiday. Fourthly, is to know Christians views about the birth of Jesus. Therefore, the students should understand the full story about the birth of Jesus. Lastly, is to help the student understand ways of answering questions. The learners should know how to argue in support of the existence. Explain the arguments for Christian holiday and the existence of the birth of Jesus with valid conclusions. Audience. Most of my student’s religious background is Christianity. They all understand the Christian’s beliefs and practices in the church since they also engage in them. The few Islam students also know the beliefs since they live among Christians. Therefore, Christianity is familiar to all students; hence, easy teaching them. The students have different characteristics. Some of them are fast learners, and others are slow learners. Therefore, it is important to accommodate all the learners. Introducing good teaching strategies like group works can make everyone in the class to work equally. Therefore, good teaching techniques can help in making all students participate in class work equally. The students are at their teenage stage making them the ideal age for Jesus teachings since they can easily understand. Due to this, they do not require a lot of attention once they guided on what to do. Younger students require close monitoring by the teacher. Therefore, the age factor of the students eases my mode of teaching (Carol, 2004). Religion is part of the curriculum taught in the institution. The lesson about charisma holiday affirms and helps increase the knowledge of the students on Christianity religion. The Teaching Techniques I will use Board works and Power-point. The slides can be used in class to explain about history of Christianity. The slides will also describe to pupils the rituals that are accompanied by the holiday of giving presents. Students will have a class discussion where I will subdivide them into groups. I assign questions for each group to tackle involving Christmas holiday. The group work is done during class time, and the group later will do some assignments where they will require to do research. When the students gather their view, they would come up with great ideas and can easily tackle a question (George, 2009). I will encourage children to ask questions where they find difficulties. The students cannot tackle all questions so they will be a question and answer session. In these session individuals and the groups are allowed to ask questions and as a class, we will discuss the answers. Those answers that will require research will be assigned to a certain group or individuals to so. I will organize the class to watch a play on Christmas holiday. Research reveal students understand better, when they watch visual elements as it is a relief from the normal reading. Lastly, after every subtopic there will be a test to give me feedback on the understanding of the students. The techniques encourage the participation of every member in the class and increase their sharpness ability. The students also understand everything in the topic without through the questions and the tests moments. Information of the topic. Christianity is a religious practice and beliefs that are according to the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. The Gospel based on Christianity revolves around the Son of God Jesus Christ of Nazarene. His teachings targeted on themes of love of God, the kingdom of God and love of neighbor. The practices and beliefs of Christians center the Jesus Christ birth and resurrection. The religion is based on the two very important occasions, and the lesson focuses on the birth of Jesus. The main theme I have chosen is the Christmas religious tradition. The tradition is practiced in celebration of the birth of the lord Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. During the celebration of the tradition, the chronological events surrounding the birth of Jesus are narrated in church sermons and homes. Christians celebrate the holiday by giving each other gifts and help the needy in the society. There are biblical prophecies in the old testament of the birth of Jesus. The lesson will look at these prophecies and how each of them was fulfilled by the birth. The lesson will cover inception of baby Jesus by the Holy Spirit and the marriage between the Mary and Joseph (Prickett & Barnes, 1991). Conclusion. In conclusion, every student should participate in class and the students learn according to the teaching techniques. However, I am very flexible and if the technique is not working, I can always shift to achieve the lesson objectives. The presents brought to the baby will be discussed. Christian interpretation of these acts in the world today will be discussed.
