Rough Draft Christianity is among the first region to be introduced in America. It emerged when people escaped from their countries in the quest for religion freedom in America. People faced religious persecution especially in Europe and America was considered as haven for freedom. Among the first to arrive are the Pilgrims in 1620s in pursuit of a perfect religion and freedom of worship. However, persecution was witnessed in various colonies though it ended, and other religions started to appear.

Religion played a vital role in shaping of the American society. The early church predominantly reflected the culture of the society brought about by the racial leaders and the economy. The religion shaped the personal development of people and institutions. It also persuaded the cause of slavery and motivated people which resulted in the rebellion towards the slave (Williams, 2008). Religion enables people to persevere suffering due to civil war, poverty, diseases, racism, economic exploitation, and even illiteracy.

However, even after people undergoing these changes, religion remained the key foundation for life among the Americans and a dominant aspect of politics. There were various movements and events that took place during the introduction of religion into America. The Society of Friends also referred as Quakers was one of the groups founded in 1647. It was a movement that claimed direct communication with God and conscience freedom. The group upheld equal rights for both men and women and enjoyed the simple life.

Other groups included were Puritans who persecuted other people, the Baptist, the Catholics, the Protestant, and among others. The major events were ‘Salem Witchcraft Trials’ in 1690 and the ‘The Great Awakening’ in 1730s that enhanced the influence of American religion. America was a refuge for people who were in need of religious freedom and many were able to transform their lives. Reference Williams, P. (2008).
