I would also assure him that I would stand with him and should he suffer from stigma, I would suffer with him because the disease does not make him any different from me. I would advise him not to rush to over-the-counter medications for the problem and not to feel any lesser person and think of committing suicide and I would particularly share with him on effects of the disease on suicidal thoughts.
In order to help him find the best treatment possible, I would advise him to visit a mental doctor and ensure that he does this for proper diagnosis. I would then share with the doctor about available treatments and their possible adverse effects and would prefer psychotherapy because of my background knowledge of the adverse effects of antidepressants (Raeburn, 2012).
