Career planning and development for Chinese undergraduate in Business School of This paper looks at the career development of Chinese undergraduate students in business school. The paper will concentrate a lot on the satisfaction that Chinese business students experience during their career. The paper will explore one article that will help in explaining the topic better. The paper will have four parts that will be Background information; Relevant Theories and Methods overview related to the topic, anticipated timeline and anticipated results Key words Chinese undergraduate students. Increased Chinese undergraduate students satisfaction Introduction The thing that students strive for a lot in their career is success. Many students are enrolling in foreign exchange programs to get a feel of what other institutions have to offer. It also gives the student much exposure to foreign markets and their mode of operations. Many Chinese undergraduate students are enrolling in foreign universities to get the much-needed education. It is not that their universities do not offer good education but the students want to have diverse knowledge when it comes to advancing their careers in different fields. In the past few years, there has been an increase of Chinese business students in foreign universities. However, the students have not been satisfied with the reception that they get in these universities. It is very rare to see Chinese students mingling with other students freely. (See graphical representation in appendix figure 2) The distance that is experienced is evident in almost all universities that accept students from other countries. This problem is brought about by the difference in culture of the students. Language barrier is also another factor that does not allow them to mingle well with their other schoolmates. There are a lot of stereotyping in universities that makes these Chinese students shy away from socializing with other students. They will never go to parties, clubs, and other social gatherings. The population of Chinese students in foreign universities is very low making it hard for them to have their own groups. A research was carried out on Chinese students on the level of socializing and coping with campus life, checking on their satisfaction levels. Results showed that few Chinese students were aware of the extra circular activities that happen in the campus and only a few of them had friends in the universities (Dollinger, 2005). Literature review In this paper, we are going to review many online journals so that we can come up with the best information to illustrate our topic. We are going to look at things like stereotyping and language barrier. According to Dollinger (2005), many factors lead to stereotyping of students that are studying in foreign. In addition, the people that they interact with add to the stereotyping. You will find students and teachers making fun of how they express themselves or how they dress. Because of the cultural difference between the students, they will do many things differently. For example, Chinese students will dress differently than other students in the university. This will be a point of ridicule by other students who see this mode of dressing as different and not in fashion. Some of the cloths that are in fashion are not acceptable in their culture. If they try explaining this to their fellow students, the students continue with their stereotyping terming their culture as outdated. Language is also a problem that leads to stereotyping of Chinese business students. Because they are not able to express themselves in English properly, lectures will always ignore them in class. This will make them shy away from answering and asking questions. Students always make fun of how they express themselves in English not knowing of the reverse effect that it has to the self-esteem of the students. The Chinese students will seclude themselves from the general population because they fell that they are not understood. Methodology The methodology that is going to be used involves collecting the relevant information from documents and several journals that touch on the issue. With this information, I will create a database that will help me analyse the topic better. In addition, I will combine my database with charts and representations of the data that has been collected. The material collected will touch a lot on the satisfaction of Chinese students in different aspects of their career. Chinese business students experience many problems when it comes with coping with campus life. The students said it was hard to do group work with other students who are good in English. It is hard for them to move with the same speed that other students move. It takes more time for them to understand the topic to be discussed. In addition, other students will not involve them fully in the discussions because they say that they are drugging them behind. Other students are not willing to explain some of the points that they come across during their discussion. Anticipated results After this study, we will come up with remedies for the situation that has been presented in this paper. Some of the issues raised and their remedies are; Classes can be practically difficult where your own teachers/professors selfishness or individual self-importance influences a scholars professional relationship when it comes to grading. As a result, they become more silent and ready to do anything to impress the professor. Of course, many teachers will help you in in any manner that they may need. However, others become tainted in how they treat other students. (See ratings of satisfaction of students in appendix figure 1) Most of the Chinese students experience many problems when it comes to integrating themselves into the new culture. People will make fun of political affiliation of the students because of the strong political policies of the country. A good way to break this is to educate other students on the political cultures of the Chinese. A report on the satisfaction of the Chinese students mentions that remedies can be found to the stereo typing if when they are being enrolled into the university they are capped together with a foreign student to make their time easier when socializing with their classmates. It will also be a good time for their classmates to learn what happens in their culture. Lectures should be more outgoing so that they can help the students fit better in the class. The best gift to give to the Chinese students is to stop the stereotyping and accept them in universities. In addition, it would be a good learning experience for other students to learn a new culture free and other students might learn how the economy of china thrives. Reference Dollinger, M. (2005).
