According to this research, the maternal nipple sucking by infants with time enables the infants to gain access to their mother’s voice. In one-third of the testing session, the researchers observed that the newborns were likely to suck during a stimulus period in correlation with the maternal voice compared with the correlation of the non-maternal voice. After 20 minutes of testing, the results showed that infants sucking stimuli was high during periods of mother’s tone.

Also, the sucking enabled the infants to produce the maternal voice. The results of three days of postnatal development for the ten infants showed that the newborns prefer the human being's voice; they discriminate among speakers and express a preference for the voice of their mothers even with limited motherly exposure.

In my view based on this article, it is true that the mother-infant bond has an impact on the development of infant hearing ability. This bond enables infants to understand their mother’s language. However, the period of the experiment was too short, and the size of the sample was small. Future research requires focusing on all the issues that, affect the development of newborns, for example, the living environment.
