?Running Head: CIDS AND JOB SEARCH SITES-PERSONAL VOCATIONAL/CAREER INFORMATION RESOURCE GUIDE CIDS and Job Search Sites-Personal Vocational/Career Information Resource Guide Student’s Name Course ID Date Assignment 1 After reviewing various websites through Google search, I came to know that there are websites that can be used by me, my colleagues and clients for respective job searches and career counseling. One of the websites that I came across was related to Montana career delivery information system managed by Montana Research and Analysis Bureau (2013) which appears to be a single-handed source of career profiling and information regarding current rate of employment in different fields. The source is particularly effective as it contains variety of information i.e. career clustering, certification, industry outlook, salary and benefits information, jobs availability, usage of assessment codes, trainings available, skills matching that can be helpful for job seekers and career counselors. Where Montana career resource network provides a cursory view of the current state of industry in different fields of employment, careeronestop.org (2013) is a multifaceted website that not only acts as a resume bank for headhunters and recruitment managers but also contains variety of information for those looking for jobs. The website is affiliated with US department of labor and provides details of jobs available in different states. In addition to that, the website contains links of various other sites that help in career profiling and skills assessment that allows job seekers to be aware of job options available to them. The website facilitates employers to post their jobs directly through job description writer option. In addition, job seekers are helped with writing and uploading effective resumes and cover letters that would help them target the right employer. For a career counselor, it is important to be aware of job opportunities that can be available to their respective clients and also the skills that would be required for such jobs. Without having extensive information about clients’ needs and variety of options available to them, no viable career counseling advice can be given to them. Assignment 2 Personal Career Resource Guide 1. Name of CIDS/Website: Montana Career Information System (2013) 2. Type or category of resource: State Information System 3. Affiliated organizations: Careeronestop. org; Montana Department of Labor 4. Group or population resource is intended to serve: Students, beginners, experienced professionals 5. Goals and objectives applied to resource: Understanding of career paths in different fields of employment, appropriate selection of career on the basis of skills, accessibility of readily available information required for effective career counseling 6. Activities, assignments, or tasks to assist client in achieving these goals and objectives: a. Using skills matching tools to understand their own preferences and requirements of the employers b. Extensive analysis of career path available in their respective fields c. Critical analysis of skills required for further career progression d. Development of resumes, cover letters and personal profiles e. Preparation for interviews f. Effective browsing of jobs available in the state and analyzing if these jobs are suitable for them considering current outlook of employment in their respective industry, their personal needs and their career preferences g. Identification and development of skills that would be required at current and next level of employment 7. Strengths of the resource: The source is particularly helpful for students and beginners for their career mapping and further planning. It allows this demographic segment to be aware of viable career options available to them in future. Furthermore, it also provides information about skills that they need to develop in order to excel in their respective fields. 8. Weaknesses of the resources: The source appears to be a more effective tool in terms of information gathering and future planning. There are limited options available for the visitors of the websites to understand differences between employers in the same industry. Since it is important for an employee to be a job-fit and organization-fit in order to remain motivated, the site does not provide information or guidance regarding the types of employers that job seekers should target. Hence, instead of being a bi-dimensional source of information, it only provides guidance regarding which skills to develop and what career opportunities one should pursue while undermining the importance of types of organizations and their respective culture. 1. There is limited information available in terms of career guidance and personal development. References CareerOne Stop. (2013). Career One Stop.
