JC’s Casino has experienced reduced productivity due to failure to retain employees. This paper will consider the recommendations an independent consultant will make to the casino president about the improvement of the overall retention. An independent consultant will make appropriate recommendations upon identifying various issues that affect employee retention of JC’s casino negatively. The consultant will examine exit interviews and interview dealers and housekeepers to acquire adequate information, regarding the occupational stressors that affect employee retention.

Among the possible issues that hinder organizational retention include the incompetence of boss, who is toxic and evil. Another issue includes long work hours and excessive workload due to understaffed department. Housekeeping department also suffers from an overwhelming rate of employee absenteeism, staffing shortages, and high turnovers of rooms. Therefore, the consultant should make recommendations about the appropriate strategies that will avoid the occurrence of the issues. The first action of an independent consultant is the introduction of suitable work motivation strategies that will help ameliorate recruitment and retention of employees at JC’s Casino.

Motivation refers to the action of encouraging workers to accomplish various goals through creating favorable working conditions (Mathis & Jackson, 2010). Incentive reward theory is among the theories that the consultant will apply for improved recruitment and retention of employees (Miner, 2007). This theory involves rewarding employees with monetary or nonmonetary incentives when their job performances are satisfactory. The monetary incentives include bonus or pay raise to reward employees for a great achievement.

Nonmonetary incentives are the rewards that do not involve money. The best example of nonmonetary incentives is job security, which boosts the morale of employees toward working hard for the achievement of the organization’s objectives. Another theory that will be useful in solving the issues at JC’s Casino includes the goal setting theory (Miner, 2007). This theory involves giving achievable chores to employees to enable them perform perfectly. The goal setting theory will help the management of JC’s casino to identify understaffed departments, set the productive goal, and recruit qualified personnel by virtue of the required job skills.

Therefore, incentive reward theory and goal setting theory are useful in the amelioration of employee recruitment and retention at JC’s Casino. Housekeepers and dealers experience a number of occupational stressors at JC’s Casino in the course of executing their duties. The work environment is among the stressors that hinders the retention of housekeepers and dealers at JC’s Casino. Some of the entertaining activities at JC’s Casino include drinking and gambling. The combination of entertaining activities produces behaviors that dealers and housekeepers may not be able to tolerate.

The behaviors of drunks and gamblers may cause stress among dealers and housekeepers during their working life (Nelson & Quick, 2008). Absenteeism of employees is another stressor because the remaining employees will do extra tasks to accomplish the
