? Christian Worldview Malisa Anderson (Your school) Christian Worldview The Bible is considered to be the bestselling book of all time. It is also said that it is the most complete book. Some even claim that everything about humanity and its existence is in this holy book. We just have to know where and how to find the information we need in the Bible. Even the aspects of research and program evaluation can be found in different passages of this Book. Amazing, is it not? Genesis tells the wonderful story of creation, chapter 1 starts with the creation of the earth, sky, oceans, and animals of the waters and of land, plants and every living thing on Earth. After the creation of these things God saw that it was good, rested on the 7th day and created man, Adam. He was given everything he needed in the garden called Eden which God created for him. Genesis chapter 2 verses 19-20 show how Adam was given the power to name and classify the beasts of the fields, and every fowl of the air. Verse 20 shows how the types of animals were put into specific categories. This shows the concept of classification in science called taxonomy. Adam showed this concept by giving names to specific groups of animals. Although it was mentioned that he named the animals, there is no indication that he used scientific and particular taxonomy in specifically naming animal species in each category. It was not also mentioned that he named all the animals like for example the animals in the sea. Hence, it is more suitable to say that he used general taxonomy or classifications for each group of animals. The names given to the animals were permanent as mentioned in verse 19 of the same chapter. The naming of the animals is very important because these distinctive and known labels aided us in identifying organisms and their offspring. Furthermore, we can see that Noah showed the concept of measurement in Genesis chapter 6 verses 12-22 when he build the ark that would save himself, his family, and pairs (male and female) of every animal (Genesis 6:18) before God would flood the earth to punish men for their sinfulness. Verse 15 of the same chapter gives the first record of a measurement in the Bible, where the length of the ark is 300 cubits, the breadth of it 50 cubits, and the height of it is 30 cubits. These measurements were according to God’s specific instructions. Some say that there are two cubit measurements mentioned in the bible. The common measurement, like the one mentioned in Genesis, is equivalent to 17.5 inches and some would round it of to 18 inches, while the other, which is mentioned in the book of Ezekiel, is equivalent to 20.4 inches and some would also round it of to 21 inches. In today’s standard measurement, it would have an approximate length of 450 feet or 137.16 meters, the breadth would 75 feet of 22.86 meters and the height would be 45 feet or 13.72 meters (Lovett, 2004). No one knows how Noah got the exact measurements for the ark but there is no doubt how he got it right. As for Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses, he demonstrated the concept of program evaluation. The examples are found in Exodus 18:13-27. Jethro was gauging the burden of Moses regarding his situation. As a father, was concerned and had some proposals on how Moses can lessen the difficulties involved with a number of social engagements. During that time, judges had insufficient hours to achieve all of their tasks. As magistrates, they had to focus on the disagreements. Since more than several constituents had arguments to settle, arbiters had challenges in managing their time. In relation to this, Jethro advised that Moses must delegate some workloads. He voiced out his assessment that other kinds of tasks such as educating the people can be done by other trusted individuals. Hence, Moses adhered to the suggestion of Jethro. In the end, Christians were chosen to help in evaluating some disputes. This event denoted the importance of appraising the processes involved in a plan or on-going agenda. Jethro was able to efficiently evaluate the program of his son-in-law and gave some wise advices. Some characters such as Daniel and Melzar demonstrated the use of a stated or implied research question as well as hypotheses. Moreover, they have portrayed the essence of employing research methodologies like specifying participants, instruments, and procedures. This situation can be found in Daniel 1:1-21. The Scriptures stated that Daniel was very much conscious about proper diet. His food regimen is also what current dieticians and health conscious individuals prefer. Daniel was asked to eat meat and wine so he could be presented as a fit soldier to the king. However, Daniel did not agree to this kind of nourishment. Thus, he proposed a novel way of facilitating nutrition. He requested that he would eat vegetables and water instead. He asked that this would be done then be compared with those that had meat and wine. Daniel had ten days to prove that his regimen worked better. After the designated time, they were assessed and Daniel’s diet proved to be more effective since they looked healthier and stronger as compared to their counterparts. Hence, Melzar, the steward respected Daniel’s suggestions and employed his regimen. In relation to research, the hypothesis would be the position that eating vegetables and drinking water would have a significant difference as compared to consuming meat and wine concerning physical improvement. In the aspect of research methodology, the participants were the men. Furthermore, the instruments were the different kinds of food and the procedures consisted of taking note of their physical condition before the treatment, implementing the variables, and assessing the results. This method is what is presently termed as classic experimental design. This is composed of a control group and an experimental group. Some authors term this as two groups design. The control does not undergo treatment whereas the experimental will be treated with the independent variable. In Daniel’s example, the control group was composed of those who took the usual meal. They were the ones who ate meat and drank wine. This is the population that did not receive any treatment. On the other hand, the experimental group will undergo Daniel’s nutrition scheme. The dependent variable will be compared using the data gathered before and after the experiment. It appears that the difference was very significant since the verses indicate that those who merely ate vegetables were 10 times stronger and wiser than the other experts. As a counsellor the designs that would be most comfortable for me to use are single subjects design (experimental design) specifically the ABAB design as well as case studies. The ABAB design makes the participant have improvements in his behaviour by utilizing reinforcements. For instance, if the client would be an alcoholic, his baseline behaviour would first be observed and plotted. This is then followed by the implementation of the reinforcement scheme. The participant may be then be given a massage therapy every time he chooses to skip smoking. The next phase would involve the withdrawal of the treatment; this may then reveal whether the reinforcement was successful. Lastly, the reinforcement would be reemployed to check if the participant indeed learned to lessen or stop his negative behaviour. I think that this design is useful in helping individuals cope with addictions and other kinds of behavioural problems. Furthermore, exercising case studies would ultimately help respondents since the overall weaknesses, strengths, and propositions would be considered. There would be a comprehensive understanding of the individual since his history, environment, and other pertinent background would be analysed.
